Φάκελος Κύπρου: Οι Χουντικοί γνώριζαν για την εισβολή και έκαναν διακοπές

Μέρος 3ο - “Σχέδιο Κ”: Τα αεροσκάφη δεν πέταξαν, τα υποβρύχια δεν απέπλευσαν...

Ανάμεσα στα άλλα το “Σχέδιο Κ” προέβλεπε επιθετική συνδρομή στην άμυνα της Κύπρου και μιας Μοίρας 20 πολεμικών αεροσκαφών F-84 Φάντομ, η οποία από της 18 Ιουλίου βρισκόταν σε ετοιμότητα στο αεροδρόμιο Καστελίου Κρήτης για να βρίσκεται πιο κοντά (απόσταση 600 χλμ.). Αυτή η Μοίρα προβλεπόταν να προσβάλει “εφ’ άπαξ” την αποβατική δύναμη των Τούρκων με βόμβες, ρουκέτες και πολυβόλα, σε συνδυασμό με την προώθηση τουλάχιστον ενός ελληνικού υποβρυχίου στην Κύπρο, προς ενίσχυση και συμβολή στην καταστροφή της αμφίβιας εχθρικής δύναμης. Επειδή τα καύσιμα δεν θα επαρκούσαν για την επιστροφή των αεροσκαφών στη βάση τους, θα έπρεπε αναγκαστικά να προσγειωθούν σε αεροδρόμια της νότιας Κύπρου ή της Ρόδου και, σε απόλυτη ανάγκη, στο αεροδρόμιο της Βηρυτού ή του Τελ Αβίβ!

Επίσης για την άμυνα της Κύπρου προβλεπόταν από το “Σχέδιο Κ” η στρατιωτική δράση τουλάχιστον ενός υποβρυχίου τύπου 209, γερμανικής προέλευσης -από τότε η Γερμανία είχε, βλέπετε, αναλάβει ένα σημαντικό τμήμα των αμυντικών δαπανών της Ελλάδας, αποκόμιζε σημαντικά κέρδη και μοίραζε μίζες-, 8 τορπιλοσωλήνες, φορτίο 15 τορπιλών, ακτίνα δράσης 7.520 ν. μίλια και διάρκεια επιχειρήσεων 50 μέχρι 60 ημέρες. Κατά την εκτίμηση του ΓΕΝ, υποβρύχια αυτού του τύπου μπορούσαν να φθάσουν στην περιοχή της Κύπρου σε 40 μέχρι 56 ώρες από την περιοχή της Κρήτης. Σύμφωνα με τον Ι. Βαρβιτσιώτη: “Δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία ότι οι τουρκικές αποβατικές δυνάμεις θα είχαν μεγάλες απώλειες, εάν τα ελληνικά υποβρύχια κατόρθωναν να φθάσουν στην περιοχή της απόβασης...”.

Σύμφωνα με το πόρισμα του “Φακέλου Κύπρου” η μη έγκαιρη αποστολή των υποβρυχίων και λόγω αυτής της αιτίας μη επίθεση κατά της τουρκικής αποβατικής δύναμης “στέρησε, μαζί με τη μη επέμβαση των αεροσκαφών, από τις ελληνικές δυνάμεις, τη μοναδική ευκαιρία να καταγάγουν μία μοναδική νίκη επί της τουρκικής αποβατικής δύναμης που κατά πάσα πιθανότητα θα ανάγκαζε το τουρκικό Γενικό Επιτελείο να ματαιώσει όλες τις Επιχειρήσεις, πράγμα που θα είχε θετικές επιπτώσεις τόσο για την Ελλάδα, όσο και για την Κύπρο. Η ποιότητα και το αξιόμαχο των υποβρυχίων που μόλις είχαν αποκτηθεί, καθώς και οι νέες τεχνολογικές εφαρμογές τις οποίες έφεραν, τα καθιστούσαν αποφασιστικό παράγοντα για την έκβαση της αποβατικής εχθρικής ενέργειας”.

Τελικά ούτε τα υποβρύχια απέπλευσαν, ούτε και η Μοίρα των 20 F-84 Φάντομ, τα μισά μόνον εκ των οποίων ήταν αξιόμαχα, πέταξε προς την Κύπρο. Η σχετική διαταγή δόθηκε αργά (13.15') κι ενώ είχε πέσει η Κυρήνεια στα χέρια των Τούρκων και είχε γίνει δεκτή η κατάπαυση του πυρός κι έτσι η αποστολή των F-4 ματαιώθηκε οριστικά. Έτσι “η συμβολή της Αεροπορίας κατά την κρίσιμη περίοδο κυμάνθηκε μεταξύ μηδενικής έως μηδαμινής συμβολής στις διεξαχθείσες επιχειρήσεις”, σημειώνει το πόρισμα. Αλλά και η επιστράτευση στην Κύπρο για την ενίσχυση των Ελληνοκυπριακών δυνάμεων άργησε, κι όταν κηρύχθηκε απέτυχε οικτρά λόγω ανοργανωσιάς, αλλά και του χάους που προκαλούσαν οι συνεχείς βομβαρδισμοί των οδικών αξόνων από την τουρκική αεροπορία.

Επίσης η αποστολή στην Κύπρο ενισχύσεων μέσω ενός πλοίου από την Κρήτη στο οποίο επέβαινε το 573 Τάγμα Πεζικού και 550 Κύπριοι εθελοντές, κυρίως Κύπριοι φοιτητές στην Ελλάδα, υπό τον Συνταγματάρχη Παπαποστόλου, διατάχθηκε να αλλάξει πορεία και να κατευθυνθεί αντί για την Κύπρο στη Ρόδο με τη δικαιολογία ότι απειλούνταν με τουρκική απόβαση! “Σπεύσατε και αποβιβάσατε τα τμήματα εις Ρόδον, απειλουμένην υπό Τούρκων”, ήταν η σχετική εντολή. Όταν οι στρατιώτες και οι εθελοντές αποβιβάστηκαν τελικά στη Ρόδο αντί για την Κύπρο και είδαν πως όλα ήταν φυσιολογικά, υπήρχαν τουρίστες και κανείς δεν έδειχνε να ανησυχεί για τουρκική εισβολή, κατάλαβαν ότι είχαν εξαπατηθεί...
