Οι αγρότες της Τανζανίας αντιμετωπίζουν βαριές ποινές φυλάκισης αν συνεχίσουν την παραδοσιακή ανταλλαγή των σπόρων τους!

Οι σπόροι της Αφρικής και οι παραδοσιακοί τρόποι ανταλλαγής τους, στο στόχαστρο των μεγάλων αγρο-βιομηχανιών, με όχημα και πρόφαση την παροχή αναπτυξιακής βοήθειας!

Σε αντάλλαγμα «αναπτυξιακής» βοήθειας, η Τανζανία καλείται να δώσει στις Δυτικές –πολυεθνικές- αγροβιομηχανίες πλήρη ελευθερία και προστασία των πατενταρισμένων σπόρων τους. «Ογδόντα τοις εκατό των σπόρων στη χώρα σήμερα, μοιράζονται ή πωλούνται σε ένα άτυπο σύστημα μεταξύ συγγενών, γειτόνων, και φίλων. Ο νέος νόμος ποινικοποιεί αυτή την πρακτική στην Τανζανία, λέει ο Michael Farrelly της TOAM, (κίνημα για τη βιολογική γεωργία στην Τανζανία)

«Στο πλαίσιο της νέας νομοθεσίας, αν αγοράσετε σπόρους από την Syngenta ή τη Monsanto, αυτές διατηρούν τα δικαιώματα πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας πάνω τους. Εάν αποθηκεύσετε τους σπόρους από την πρώτη σας συγκομιδή, μπορείτε να τους χρησιμοποιήσετε μόνο σε δικό σας κομμάτι γης και μόνο για μη εμπορικούς σκοπούς. Δεν θα σας επιτρέπεται να τους μοιραστείτε με τους γείτονες ή τους συγγενείς σας ή με ανθρώπους από γειτονικό χωριό και οπωσδήποτε δεν θα μπορείτε να τους πουλήσετε. Αλλά όμως, αυτός ο τρόπος ανταλλαγής αποτελεί το θεμέλιο του συστήματος σπόρων στην Αφρική», λέει ο Michael Farrelly.

Σύμφωνα με το νέο νόμο, οι Τανζανοί αγρότες κινδυνεύουν με ποινή φυλάκισης τουλάχιστον 12 ετών ή πρόστιμο ύψους άνω των € 205.300, ή και τα δύο, αν πωλούν σπόρους που δεν έχουν πιστοποιηθεί.

«Αυτό είναι ένα ποσό που ένας αγρότης δεν μπορεί καν να το φανταστεί. Ο μέσος μισθός είναι λιγότερο από 2 δολάρια την ημέρα », λέει η Janet Maro, επικεφαλής της Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT, Αειφόρος Γεωργία στην Τανζανία).
