Cuba y Chicago inician colaboración en materia de salud

Profesionales cubanos y estadounidenses trabajarán en la evaluación de la atención de salud a las comunidades vulnerables y de limitados recursos de la ciudad de Chicago, para proponer acciones que contribuyan a mejorar sus indicadores de salud

Con la visita de tres expertos cubanos a la ciudad de Chicago se inició esta semana un proyecto de colaboración entre la Universidad de Illinois, y el Ministerio de Salud Pública de Cuba (MINSAP), como parte del cual profesionales cubanos y estadounidenses trabajarán en la evaluación de la atención de salud a las comunidades vulnerables y de limitados recursos de la ciudad de Chicago, con vistas a proponer acciones que contribuyan a mejorar sus indicadores de salud.

Esta visita de expertos cubanos a la ciudad se extenderá hasta el próximo 13 de enero y marca el inicio de este programa de trabajo conjunto, cuya primera etapa durará aproximadamente un año y estará centrada en la atención materno-infantil y en la detección y prevención del cáncer, indica una nota publicada por la cancillería cubana.

Durante su estancia en Chicago, los doctores cubanos Sonia María González Vega, directora de Atención Primaria de Salud en el municipio de Camagüey; José Armando Arronte Villamarín, director provincial de Salud en Las Tunas y Carlos Calvis Cabrera, coordinador de Brigadas Médicas Internacionales, intercambiarán con representantes de centros de salud, universidades y otros actores de la comunidad, sobre las experiencias y estrategias satisfactorias del sistema de salud cubano, basado en la medicina preventiva.

En relación con este proyecto, el Dr. Robert A. Winn, vicerrector asociado de prácticas de salud comunitaria y director del Centro contra el Cáncer de la Universidad de Illinois, manifestó que esperan trabajar con los profesionales cubanos «para identificar las prácticas médicas que les han funcionado, al tiempo que les permitiremos observar algunos de los métodos a través de los cuales proveemos la asistencia médica y que pueden resultar muy diferentes a la manera en que ellos trabajan, con la esperanza de que este intercambio nos lleve a la salud mejorada de las poblaciones de nuestros dos países».

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on.
