Το Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης παίρνει θέση ενάντια στη σύλληψη του δημοσιογράφου Κώστα Βαξεβάνη και τη μήνυση Στουρνάρα, αφήνοντας έκθετο τον Έλληνα τραπεζίτη.

Στην σύλληψη του Κώστα Βαξεβάνη αναφέρεται σε ανακοίνωση στην ιστοσελίδα του, τo Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης.

Αναλυτικά η ανακοίνωση:

«Ο Έλληνας δημοσιογράφος Κώστας Βαξεβάνης κρατήθηκε από την αστυνομία με την κατηγορία της συκοφαντικής δυσφήμισης μετά την εθελούσια άφιξή του στο αστυνομικό τμήμα Καλλιθέας στην Αθήνα, στις 10 Απριλίου 2017.

Ο εισαγγελέας διέταξε αργότερα την αποφυλάκισή του δημοσιογράφου, εν αναμονή και της προκαταρκτικής έρευνας.

Οι κατηγορίες αφορούν ρεπορτάζ της εφημερίδας Documento, που δημοσιεύθηκε στις 9 Απριλίου 2017, και ισχυρίζεται ότι η Σταυρούλα Νικολοπούλου-Στουρνάρα, σύζυγος του διοικητή της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδας, εκμεταλλεύτηκε το αξίωμα του συζύγου της, εξασφαλίζοντας δημόσια χρηματοδότηση για τη διοργάνωση ιατρικών συνεδρίων χωρίς να περάσει από δημόσιο διαγωνισμό.

Το ρεπορτάζ εγείρει επίσης ερωτηματικά, σχετικά με τις διασυνδέσεις της Νικολοπούλου-Στουρνάρα με τη φαρμακευτική βιομηχανία, καθώς και τη συμμετοχή του συζύγου της, Γιάννη Στουρνάρα, στα συνέδρια.

Η Νικολοπούλου-Στουρνάρα, το σπίτι της οποίας ερευνήθηκε από τις αρχές το περασμένο έτος για πιθανή δωροδοκία στην οποία εμπλέκεται το ΚΕΕΛΠΝΟ, αρνήθηκε τους ισχυρισμούς της εφημερίδας και υπέβαλε μηνύσεις για συκοφαντική δυσφήμιση σε βάρος του Κώστα Βαξεβάνη.

Τον Μάρτιο του 2015, δικαστήριο καταδίκασε τον δημοσιογράφο Βαξεβάνη σε 26 μήνες φυλάκιση για δυσφήμιση κατά του Έλληνα επιχειρηματία, Ανδρέα Βγενόπουλου, στο πλαίσιο έρευνας που έλαβε χώρα το 2012-2013 για την οικονομική κρίση στην Κύπρο. Την καταδίκη του δημοσιογράφου ανέτρεψε ομόφωνα τριμελής επιτροπή δικαστών του Εφετείου Αθηνών τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2016».
