Όλα πάνε δεξιά για τη Μέρκελ

Στο Βερολίνο δεν άνοιξαν σαμπάνιες από διακριτικότητα, αν και η εκλογή του Μακρόν ήταν ότι καλύτερο μπορούσαν να περιμένουν: o νέος Γάλλος πρόεδρος κινείται στο ίδιο μήκος κύματος με την νεοφιλελεύθερη πολιτική που έχει επιβάλλει στην ΕΕ η Α.Μέρκελ. Δεν ήταν άλλωστε ο ίδιος ο Β. Σόιμπλε που είχε δηλώσει ότι, αν ήταν Γάλλος, θα ψήφιζε Μακρόν;

Καλά νέα έρχονται και από το εσωτερικό μέτωπο. Πριν από μερικούς μήνες, μια Ανγκελα Μέρκελ που φαινόταν κουρασμένη δίσταζε να ανακοινώσει εκ νέου την υποψηφιότητα της, μετά από 12 σχεδόν χρόνια στη πρωθυπουργία. Η ορμητική είσοδος του Μάρτιν Σουλτς στη γερμανική πολιτική ζωή ενίσχυσε όσους υποστήριζαν ότι έπρεπε να είχε αποχωρήσει στην ώρα της.

Όμως ο "τυφώνας Σουλτς" έχασε γρήγορα τη δυναμική του και το Σοσιαλδημοκρατικό κόμμα συγκεντρώνει το 28% της πρόθεσης ψήφου στις δημοσκοπήσεις, έναντι του 36% για τους Χριστιανοδημοκράτες. Η άνοδος και η πτώση του πρώην προέδρου του Κοινοβουλίου αποδεικνύει ότι δεν αρκεί η συμπάθεια: χρειάζεται να αλλάξει και η πολιτική.

Αντίθετα, η δημοτικότητα της καγκελάριου φτάνει το 46%. Η ίδια αισθάνεται τόσο ασφαλής ώστε τη προηγούμενη εβδομάδα έβγαλε ξανά με τους Σύριους πρόσφυγες selfies, που τής είχαν κοστίσει ακριβά το φθινόπωρο του 2015, όταν καλωσόριζε τους πρόσφυγες που έφθαναν κατά χιλιάδες στη Γερμανία.

Την Κυριακή το κόμμα της κυρίας Μέρκελ κέρδισε τις εκλογές στο ομόσπονδο κρατίδιο Σλέσβιχ Χολστάιν αλλά το μεγάλο τεστ θα πραγματοποιηθεί αυτή τη Κυριακή στη Ρηνανία Βεστφαλία, το πολυπληθέστερο γερμανικό κρατίδιο των 13 εκατομμυρίων κατοίκων. Η Ρηνανία Βεστφαλία εκλέγει, σχεδόν συνεχώς από το 1967 κυβερνήσεις όπου επικρατούν οι Σοσιαλδημοκράτες, αλλά αυτή τη φορά η μάχη είναι πιο αμφίρροπη από ποτέ. Αν πέσει κι αυτό το κάστρο, το Σοσιαλδημοκρατικό Κόμμα δύσκολα θα ανακάμψει ώστε να κερδίσει τις εθνικές εκλογές του Σεπτεμβρίου.

Η εξήγηση για τη μερκελική αντοχή είναι η καλή πορεία της γερμανικής οικονομίας. Τα ποσοστά της ανεργίας είναι τα χαμηλότερα εδώ και πολλά χρόνια και το 2017 προβλέπεται να σημειωθεί ικανοποιητική οικονομική ανάπτυξη. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει λίγο πολύ και με τις υπόλοιπες οικονομίες των χωρών της Βόρειας Ευρώπης.

Δημιουργείται έτσι το παράδοξο, η καλή πορεία των οικονομιών του Βορρά να ενισχύουν τις κυβερνήσεις, ιδίως τη γερμανική της κυρίας Μέρκελ, που έχουν επιβάλλει τις καταστροφικές πολιτικές λιτότητας στο Νότο, από τις οποίες ωφελούνται ακριβώς οι χώρες του Βορρά.Νν η Μέρκελ και οι Χριστιανοδημοκράτες κερδίσουν ξανά, η ανάκαμψη στο Νότο θα καθυστερήσει, για πολύ καιρό ακόμη.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events.
