After recent G7 fiasco, the Western imperialists are about to split the spheres of influence

NATO's invasion in Latin America begins from Colombia

While the global attention turned to Trump-Jong Un meeting in Singapore, with Donnie giving another theatrical performance, the US empire made a move that could be easily considered a strong signal for a dramatic change. The Western imperialists are about to split the alliance, starting a race to secure the new spheres of influence. It could be proved very critical on re-shaping the global geopolitical balance in the close future.

As reported by MintPressNews:

Colombia’s formal partnership with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) marks the first time that a Latin American country has joined the European group, and signals a new shift toward the Global South by the Cold War-era alliance.

[...]

NATO began its partnership agreement with the South American nation in May 2017, immediately following the peace deal between Bogota and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP), yet the country still continues to be plagued by right-wing paramilitary activity, security forces who act with impunity, and the dire inequality that originally birthed groups such as FARC-EP.

[...]

According to NATO, the new partnership will focus on cybersecurity, maritime security, and anti-terror and organized crime operations. The partnership will also include programs relating to the standardization of military practices, joint training and military exercises, and the modernization of the Colombian Armed Forces along NATO lines.

[...]

While the news came as a surprise to some, Colombia and the North Atlantic alliance have long collaborated in these fields. The process is the culmination of right-wing President Alvaro Uribe’s opening-up of the country to the United States during the bloody “Plan Colombia” campaign versus FARC-EP, which saw the U.S. provide military aid to the country. By 2009, Uribe fast-tracked an agreement granting the U.S. military the use of two maritime bases, three air force bases, and two army bases in the country.

Under Uribe’s successor, Santos, the Colombian Ministry of Defense signed the first security and cooperation agreement with NATO in 2013, provoking an outcry from progressive governments in the region including Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Brazil and Ecuador.

[...]

Bolivian President Evo Morales denounced the move as a “provocation” and conspiracy against the “anti-imperialist Bolivarian countries” in the hemisphere, noting that the agreement came shortly after Santos had met with Venezuelan coup-supporter Henrique Capriles.

Morales noted: “How is it possible that Colombia wants to be a member of NATO? What for? To have NATO commit aggression against Latin America, so they can invade us, as they have done in Europe, Africa and Asia?

While it seems that Colombia was involved in negotiations for this unprecedented agreement for a Latin America country at least a year ago, the final decision came right after the recent G7 fiasco. The latest G7 gathering only confirmed the definite cracks in the Western alliance, as Germany attempts to decouple itself from the US tight military engagement in order to form its own imperialist empire.

The fact that the United States rushed to formalize Colombia's partnership with NATO right after G7 meeting, indicates high insecurity and anxiety, as the Empire for decades was considering Latin America a de facto US-dominated backyard. It shows that in today's multi-polar and complex geopolitical ground, developments are rapid and frequently difficult to be predicted.

For decades, the United States attempted to control Latin America through dirty wars, military coups and right-wing puppet regimes. Yet, now that Washington sees the danger to lose control over Europe, it needs a formal and permanent expansion throughout its backyard, in order to secure its Latin America sphere of influence.

These plans are probably related to US efforts to wipe out the last Leftist governments in Latin America in an ongoing operation. The Empire wants to form a suitable ground with right-wing puppet regimes in order to expand NATO throughout Latin America, starting from Colombia. After that, it would be extremely difficult to see again independent Leftist governments in the region.

One of the biggest 'headaches' for the US empire against these plans, is, of course, Venezuela. Washington's hawks want to overthrow Maduro and install a completely controlled right-wing government by all means. Recall that Trump administration has threatened Venezuela openly even with a military invasion.

So, Venezuela is crucial not only because of its significant oil reserves, but because it may spoil US plans for permanent domination in Latin America, by delaying dramatically NATO's expansion. As the political unrest is still taking place in the region, new Leftist movements and leaders may rebound in Brazil, Argentina and elsewhere. This means that the US will soon be confronted with a situation very difficult to control.

But things are not better either for the other potential and ambitious imperialist empire to the other side of the Atlantic. Germany starts to realize its quite limited power, especially now that the anti-establishment political parties have taken over Italy. And this is not the only problem it has to deal with.

Germany's current economic superiority has been established through eurozone. Yet, the highly problematic monetary union is still facing multiple systemic threats coming from different sides. Eurozone has been transformed into a financial dictatorship with permanent austerity and sado-monetarism in favor of Germany's surpluses. Add to that the sudden refugee crisis that found Germany and Europe completely unprepared and unable to handle, and you have the perfect recipe for a possible EU ugly collapse in the future.

Recall also that, on 24 March 2014, the G7 members cancelled the planned G8 summit that was to be held in June that year in the Russian city of Sochi, and suspended Russia′s membership of the group, due to Russia's annexation of Crimea; nevertheless, they stopped short of outright permanent expulsion.

Inside all that mess, it appears that the US empire is mobilizing its military power as the only option to prevent further Chinese economic expansion. Unless there is a silent agreement to share peacefully the new spheres of influence with Europe and the Sino-Russian bloc, Washington's hawks will impose US power through weapons. A very common practice for decades. Only this time it will be much more brutal and dangerous because the US beast is wounded and ran out of alternatives.
