Russia ready to 'grab' the Visegrad group in the geopolitical warfare

globinfo freexchange

The news are indicative of the growing gap among the EU members.

Leaders of the Visegrad Four countries of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic will skip a mini summit on migration this weekend, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Thursday. Orban said such meetings should be organized by the European Council, the bloc’s top decision-making body, not the EU Commission. The Commission will organize the smaller summit ahead of a full EU summit due next week, Reuters said. Speaking in Budapest after a meeting of the Visegrad Four leaders, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said the EU border agency Frontex should be strengthened and its forces beefed up substantially. Babis said he agreed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on this, and believed Frontex should be increased to 10,000 staff.

The latest years, Visegrad group countries have strengthened ties, as a result of the total failure and inability of the EU mechanisms to deal with the huge refugee crisis. Far-right, xenophobic political forces, is some cases, are taking advantage of this failure to increase power and influence inside these Central-European societies.

The well-known Guardian columnist, Owen Jones, wrote recently:

At the very least, article 7 of the Lisbon treaty – which demands “all EU countries respect the values of the EU” – should be activated, with the suspension of Hungary’s voting rights and other sanctions. This demand has already been made by the European parliament’s civil liberties committee, which lists 12 breaches ranging from the weakening of the judiciary to restrictions on free speech. But Hungary, along with increasingly authoritarian Poland, is making an utter mockery of the EU’s stated commitment to democracy and human rights. In 2016 Luxembourg’s foreign minister called for Hungary to be expelled from the EU because of its treatment of refugees. He was right. Yes, the EU is buffeted by multiple crises, from Brexit to the assumption of power of a Eurosceptic Italian government. But its acceptance of its own member states succumbing to authoritarianism may prove its greatest existential threat of all.

What Jones is missing here, is that the EU officials, especially after the eruption of the economic crisis in Europe, have essentially torn into pieces the handbook of the European principles. Therefore, it is simply impossible even for the EU itself to prove its "commitment to democracy and human rights."

Many members of the eurozone experienced the undemocratic nature of the EU. And this is something that fueled nationalists in the UK and pro-Brexit vote.

The Brussels bureaufascists and the German sado-monetarists impose brutal neoliberal policies and fiscal discipline on devastated economies (like Greece), supposedly in the name of the Union 'rules', only to preserve in life Germany's surpluses through a failed model.

So, if you want proof that the EU officials apply the rules of the Union completely selectively, you should ask why these rules have not yet been activated in the case of the Visegrad group countries. And this is the first question that someone should ask. The answer is simple: because inside a fierce global geopolitical war, the EU (and especially Germany), fear that a significant part of the Eastern Europe may fall into the hands of Putin and the Russian sphere of influence.

Recall that recently, Putin enjoyed a warm welcome in Austria by Sebastian Kurz who defied the official EU line against Russia. Note that many believe that Austria is flirting with the Visegrad group and potentially will join the group in the near future. It's quite possible as Austria has also adopted a far-right, xenophobic policy.

Russia's influence could be expanded even further after recent political victory of the anti-establishment forces in Italy. EU officials, again, remained silent against Salvini's totally unacceptable decision to shut ports to migrant rescue ship Aquarius. Yet, the top hypocrite Emmanuel Macron, played the role of 'progressive' by furiously condemning Salvini's decision. Of course, he didn't dare to take the initiative to accept the ship in a French port as eventually did the Spanish PM, Pedro Sánchez.

Inside this 'harmonic' atmosphere, which leads to the darkest scenarios for Europe, it is natural for Russia to exploit circumstances in order to expand its influence beyond the pipeline geopolitics.

But if authentic progressives, like Owen Jones, really want to find the roots of this mess, they should focus on the clowns who are in charge of the EU, driving the European car straight to the cliff. And that's because these clowns insist on the failed neoliberal model in order to secure the interests of their wealthy sponsors.

"Kidnapped in Int'l Waters": Israel Intercepts Gaza-Bound Aid Ship, Detains Greta Thunberg & Others

Democracy Now!   Eleven peace activists and one journalist on board the Gaza Freedom Flotilla ship, the "Madleen," were detained by Israeli soldiers as their ship carrying vital humanitarian aid for starving Palestinians approached Gaza.    The ship was intercepted by Israeli forces in the middle of the night in international waters. Its supplies were seized and communications jammed. The unarmed activists will likely be transported to Israeli detention or "immediately deported," says Ann Wright, a U.S. military veteran who has participated in four Freedom Flotilla journeys and now serves on the steering committee of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. She calls on citizens of countries around the world to push for the activists' release and an end to Israel's war on Gaza.

Netanyahu Is Getting His War Between The U.S. & Iran!

The Jimmy Dore Show   Little progress is being made in negotiations between the United States and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program, and that may be by design. The U.S. is demanding a complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, which is a non-starter for the Iranians. Meanwhile, the U.S. appears to have reneged on a promise to get a ceasefire and humanitarian aid into Gaza in exchange for the release of the last American hostage, so Hamas — and by extension Iran — feel the U.S. cannot be trusted in negotiations. Jimmy Dore and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how Israel appears to be orchestrating a U.S. attack on Iran that few Americans have any interest in.    Related: Trump makes key move to beat Biden in their race to start a war with Iran

But what about the actual victims of this genocide—Palestinians? Journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman joins Rania Khalek on Dispatches for a fearless conversation on Zionist indoctrination in the Jewish diaspora, how antisemitism is being weaponized to silence critics of Israel, and how Jewish identity politics has been manipulated to cover for unspeakable crimes. UN report confirms: Israel is a terrorist state and its goal is to exterminate all Palestinians

Israeli attacks on educational, religious and cultural sites in the Occupied Palestinian Territory amount to war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination, UN Commission says.     globinfo freexchange Israel has obliterated Gaza’s education system and destroyed over half of all religious and cultural sites in the Gaza Strip, part of a widespread and relentless assault against the Palestinian people in which Israeli forces have committed war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, said in a new report [yesterday]. While the Commission paid special attention to the situation in Gaza, the report focuses on attacks in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as a whole, and in Israel. “We are seeing more and more indications that Israel is carrying out a concerted campaign to obliterate Palestinian life in Gaza,” said Navi Pi...

How Israel manufactured a looting crisis to cover up its Gaza famine

by Muhammad Shehada Part 4 - Gangs and scarcity are responsible for looting While Israel failed to show any evidence of Hamas stealing aid, the only documented organised systematic looting happening in Gaza right now is by Israeli-backed criminal gangs who enjoy full protection from the Israeli army, according to the Washington Post, Financial Times, Ha’aretz , and the UN. A UN memo said these gangs established a “military complex” in the heart of Rafah after Israel fully depopulated the city. Humanitarian officials say the looting often happens right in front of Israeli troops and tanks, less than 100m away, who take no action until the local police arrive, with Israeli troops then opening fire at them. Israel not only provides protection and backing to these criminal gangs but has created the perfect conditions for looting to thrive through scarcity and a collapsing state of law and order. Currently, a single bag of wheat flour sells for about 1,500 NIS ($425), which makes it profita...

They Will Starve You In A Killing Cage Too

by Nate Bear   Starvation is taking hold in Gaza. Twenty-nine people have starved to death in the last few days.  Death by starvation is horrific, the body feeding on itself, first consuming carbohydrates and fats, and then moving on to the protein parts of tissue. Once these are used up, vital organs and tissues start to fail as they aren’t being nourished by essential nutrients. The heart, lungs, muscles, ovaries, testes and brain physically shrink and shrivel. The kidneys start to fail. Eventually the body begins scavenging muscle, including the heart muscle. When this starts to happen, death is hours away, preceded by hallucinations, severe mental disturbances and convulsions. With less stored fat and higher metabolic needs, children die first. Starving parents hold their dying children, at this point nothing but skin and bone, in their arms. Adults can survive anywhere between twenty and forty days without food. Those already weak, chronically ill or immuno-compromised di...
