Πώς να κάνεις άνω κάτω ένα συνέδριο για την ανατροπή της κυβέρνησης της Βενεζουέλας

Υπάρχουν πολλοί τρόποι να κάνεις άνω κάτω ένα συνέδριο – ειδικά όταν ο στόχος του είναι η προετοιμασία της πραξικοπηματικής ανατροπής μιας δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένης κυβέρνησης. Ο δημοσιογράφος Μαξ Μπλούμενθαλ τα κατάφερε με μια μόνο ερώτηση. Παρακολούθησε ένα συνέδριο του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών και αποκάλυψε ποιοι πραγματικά κρύβονται πίσω από τις αβάσιμες κατηγορίες περί εγκλημάτων κατά της ανθρωπότητας, που στρέφονται εναντίον της Βενεζουέλας.

Στις 29 Μαΐου ένα πάνελ αποτελούμενο από αυτοαποκαλούμενους ανεξάρτητους εμπειρογνώμονες πραγματοποίησε συνέντευξη τύπου στον Οργανισμό Αμερικανικών Κρατών (Organization of American States) στην Ουάσινγκτον. Το πάνελ παρουσίασε έκθεση 400 σελίδων όπου κατηγορούσε την κυβέρνηση της Βενεζουέλας για εγκλήματα κατά της ανθρωπότητας και ζητούσε τη δίωξη του προέδρου της Βενεζουέλας Νικολά Μαδούρο από το Διεθνές Ποινικό Δικαστήριο.

Το πάνελ αποτελούνταν από μια σειρά θερμών υποστηρικτών της ανατροπής της κυβέρνησης στη Βενεζουέλα. Βρέθηκα στη συνέντευξη τύπου για να ρωτήσω αυτούς που παρουσιάζονται ως ειδικοί σχετικά με την κρυφή τους ατζέντα και σχετικά με τις παράλογες αντιφάσεις που υπάρχουν πίσω από τους ισχυρισμούς τους ότι υποστηρίζουν τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα.

Στο video ο Max Blumenthal ρωτά το πάνελ για τους ισχυρισμούς τους σχετικά με την ανεξαρτησία και την ηθική συνέπεια:

Όπως αναφέρει ο Mark Weisbrot, ένας από τους διευθυντές του Center for Economic and Policy Research: «Με δεξιούς συμμάχους να κυβερνούν τη Βραζιλία, την Αργεντινή, το Μεξικό και το Περού, ο Οργανισμός Αμερικανικών Κρατών έχει επιστρέψει στην ιστορία του ως όργανο της κυριαρχίας των ΗΠΑ στη Λατινική Αμερική»,

Ο Weisbrot συμπλήρωσε ότι ο Γενικός Γραμματέας του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών Luis Almagro «έχει εμμονή με τη Βενεζουέλα και είναι αποφασισμένος να κάνει ό,τι μπορεί για να επιδιώξει μια αλλαγή του καθεστώτος, αξιοποιώντας οποιοδήποτε μέσο χρειαστεί».

Σύμφωνα με τον Weisbrot, «ο Almagro εδώ και χρόνια κάνει εκστρατεία για να ανατρέψει την κυβέρνηση της Βενεζουέλας, υποστηρίζει το παράνομο οικονομικό εμπάργκο εναντίον της Βενεζουέλας -που στην πραγματικότητα παραβιάζει το καταστατικό του ίδιου του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών, μεταξύ άλλων διεθνώς συνθηκών και συμβάσεων. Όμως, πηγαίνει και ένα βήμα παραπέρα, προτείνοντας ένα εμπάργκο στις εξαγωγές πετρελαίου, γεγονός που αποδεικνύει την πλήρη αδιαφορία του για όσα υφίστανται οι Βενεζουελάνοι ή για τους θανάτους που προκύπτουν από τις ελλείψεις φαρμάκων».

Εκτός από τον Almagro, στο πάνελ ήταν και ο Santiago Canton, ένας Αργεντίνος δικηγόρος που αξιοποίησε τη θέση του σε πολλά διεθνή σώματα ώστε να πιέσει προς μια αλλαγή καθεστώτος στη Βενεζουέλα. Το 2002, μετά το πραξικόπημα που απομάκρυνε τον Ούγκο Τσάβες από την εξουσία, ο Canton παρέδωσε στους πραξικοπηματίες ένα γράμμα εκ μέρους της Αμερικανικής Επιτροπής Ανθρώπινων Δικαιωμάτων (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights) απευθυνόμενος στη δικτατορία σαν ένα νόμιμο καθεστώς.

Παλαιότερα ο Canton ηγούνταν του Λατινοαμερικάνικου Προγράμματος του Εθνικού Δημοκρατικού Ινστιτούτου (National Democratic Institute), που είναι τμήμα της υποστηριζόμενης από της ΗΠΑ οργάνωσης National Endowment for Democracy, μιας οργάνωσης που έχει ενισχύσει οικονομικά οργανώσεις και κόμματα που υποστηρίζουν την αντιπολίτευση στη Βενεζουέλα. Το International Republican Institute, αδελφικής ομάδας του National Democratic Institute, υποστήριξε ανοιχτά το πραξικόπημα του 2002 εναντίον του Τσάβες.

Παρουσιάζοντας το πάνελ του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών στη συνέντευξη τύπου, ο Almagro δήλωσε ότι ο οργανισμός του ήταν μια «ηθική ισχύς» με ειδική εντολή να φέρει τη δικαιοσύνη για το Καράκας.

Το πάνελ συμπλήρωνε ο Irwin Cotler, ένας πρώην Καναδός βουλευτής και βετεράνος λομπίστας του Ισραήλ που πρόσφατα κατηγόρησε τους Παλαιστίνιους για τη δολοφονία 62 διαδηλωτών από το Ισραήλ μέσα σε μια μέρα στη Γάζα. Σαν Καναδική εκδοχή του Alan Dershowitz, ο Cotler σπεύδει να υπερασπιστεί με πάθος το Ισραήλ κάθε φορά που κατηγορείται ότι διαπράττει εγκλήματα εναντίον των Παλαιστινίων.

Ο Cotler έχει επίσης υπάρχει δικηγόρος του Leopoldo Lopez, του φυλακισμένου δεξιού ηγέτη του πραξικοπήματος και συντονιστή των βίαιων διαδηλώσεων (guarimbas) στη Βενεζουέλα. Στο πάνελ κατηγόρησε την κυβέρνηση της Βενεζουέλας ως υπεύθυνη για τη χειρότερη ανθρωπιστική κρίση στην ιστορία της Λατινικής Αμερικής.
