EuroLeaks: Yanis Varoufakis and DiEM25 to release all the recordings from eurogroup containing the blackmails against Greece in 2015

In 2015, the government of a bankrupt European country attempted to renegotiate the economic conditions which had it shackled in permanent poverty. The way the EU treated it, behind closed doors, can give us important lessons about what the EU is, who controls it, and how we can reclaim it for its citizens. DiEM25 is pushing this fight with the launch of #Euroleaks on March 14.

A first small sample through the words of Alexander Stubb, then finance minister of Finland:

                    The way which I see things unraveling, is that there will be a run on the banks, which has obviously already started. There will be both political and economic chaos. You will not be able to pay salaries and you will not be able to pay pensions. You will probably be pretty much on your own.

Also, the Greek newspaper Efsyn published an exclusive piece of the recordings. In this piece, the then German finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, was demanding even the SMPs (the earnings from the 2014-2015 Greek bonds) to be added to the German budget!

His manner resembles a representative of a neo-colonial power rather than a European partner of Greece: "... we are not in a procedure of loans, of guarantees, but we are in a procedure of transfer ..."

                   I don't have no mandate, not at all, even to negotiate an additional financing. Including, be very specific, including the SMP transfer for 2014. Uh, uh and it is not, also in light of things have been in Greek, including payment of the SMP from 2015 to the ESM, which we have a clear uh, uh, uh, uh agreement, as precondition for this, and as long as these preconditions are not delivered, I can't pay, and as a case we are not, um, we are not in a procedure of loans, of guarantees, but we are in a procedure of transfer, of transfer. And the other part is for my is for my budget. I have to take the SMP for my budget!

So much for European "solidarity".

Note that, last month, the Greek Speaker of the House Constantine Tassoulas, refused(!) to accept Varoufakis' envelope containing a USB of the leaks.

Varoufakis tweeted:

                   Quite remarkable how oligarchic gvts fear transparency. Today I submitted to the Speaker a USB with all my (perfectly legal) 2015 Eurogroup recordings, asking him to make them available to MPs and the public. Panicked, he sent it back! Worry not. MeRA25 will let light in. Soon!

Note also that Tassoulas is a member of the New Democracy conservative party that won the elections in June 2019.

Recall that, the Greek voters gave a clear governmental order to one of the traditional powers of the old political system, which are highly responsible for the Greek crisis that erupted in 2010. Several top names of the new government, and even New Democracy leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, have been accused of being involved in various corruption scandals, in the not so distant past.

The current New Democracy party is a product of the Greek oligarchy establishment. The party - especially after the eruption of the Greek crisis in 2010 - has been transformed into an unprecedented and peculiar mixture of some of the most fanatic neoliberals and some of the most fanatic nationalists. 

New Democracy has four years to implement the most devastating neoliberal program, without any significant resistance. This is its sole mission. To transform the country into a neoliberal paradise for the oligarchs and the foreign investment 'predators', in full cooperation with the neoliberal powers that govern the EU.
