Cold War 2.0: Dangerous games from Washington's "hawks"

by system failure

Latest numerous indications show that the US surround Russia, attempting to isolate the country militarily, politically and economically. The support of neo-nazis in Ukraine was aiming to drag Russia into an attrition war in East Ukraine, for a start. Some analysts claim that Washington's "hawks" prepare a nuclear "preventive" strike against Russia because they believe that they can obviate Russian or Chinese retaliation, using the anti-missile shield in East Europe.

Unfortunatelly, there are indications that this may be possible. According to latest information, Washington proceeds in actions to surround China as well. It is not accidental that these revelations come after the recent big agreement between Russia and China on the energy sector. According to some analysts, the US transfer 60% of their naval forces to the Asian Pasific, while they plan to build a similar "anti-missile" system in the region.

Why the American economic elite rushes to "burn" the planet? The answer is that probably they were surprised by the turn of Russia, which almost surrendered to the Russian oligarchs and was ready to be "absorbed" by the neoliberal doctrine. Putin's moves found the Western oligarchs unready and now they run to cover the distance. A "preventive" nuclear strike is probably the last solution in the agenda, in case that the plan for the dissolution of the vast Russian territory won't work.

The fact that Putin tries to nationalize the economy and the banking system completely, in an attempt to protect Russia from the expansion of the global neoliberal dictatorship, explains to a great extent why the international banksters have declared war against him.

It seems that a modest Obama receives high, continuous pressure by the White House neocon "hawks" and the American economic elite, to pull the new cold war to the edge, challenging Russia to involve in a "warm" incident which will give a pretext to Washington to proceed in a "preventive" nuclear strike. This may be another reason why Putin hesitates to intervene openly in the East Ukraine as he did in Crimea.

Additionally to all these, the new "headache" for Obama, is the sudden Jihadist onslaught by ISIL in Iraq. In case that ISIL will prevail in Iraq, the organization will target Western governments, according to some analysts.

The general situation in Middle East is also chaotic (inside the civil war, bomb attacks have started in Homs, a city which already suffered heavily by the civil war, http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/06/19/367719/3-killed-in-w-syria-car-bomb-attack/ as well as in Hama: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/06/20/367797/car-bomb-blast-kills-34-syrians-in-hama/).

Obama is quite obviously confused by the Jihadist onslaught in Iraq since "hawks" want to get rid of the dead-end mess that they've created there, in order to concentrate on Russia. The Obama announcement concerning his willing to send some military advisers to Iraq seems at least hypocritical considering that in different situations Americans were ready to send troops under the slightest pretext. It seems that they have decided to abandon the government-puppet there:

It appears that Obama is trying to gain some time, balancing between Washington's "hawks" pressure and the chaotic situation in the East Ukraine and Middle East, until the end of his term, in order to throw the "hot potato" to the hands of the next US president.

Unfortunately, it seems that things are worse than in the period of the first cold war, and one significant reason for that, is the schizophrenic belief of Washington's neocons that Russia does not have the power to respond in a nuclear attack. On the contrary, during the first cold war period, there were "underground communication channels" between the two superpowers which were assisting on the mutual retreat, even in very crucial moments, like in the case of the Cuba missile crisis, when the Soviets installed nuclear missiles on the island, as a response to the installation of US nuclear missiles in Italy and Turkey. It seems that for the moment, there are no such communication channels between the US and Russia and situation is getting more and more dangerous.

The American economic elite, probably prepares the scenery for a more "willing" puppet in power after the end of the Obama administration. It appears that, for the moment, the most probable person for this role is Hillary Clinton, for impression and distraction purposes too (she will be the first woman president of the United States, if elected, after Obama, who is the first African-American president).

Hillary Clinton seems more willing to play the dangerous game of Washington's "hawks" - she recently liken Putin's actions with Hitler's during 30s - while we should not forget that Bill Clinton brought a bloodbath in Bosnia and Yugoslavia through NATO bombings during 90s. We should not forget also that Clinton was the one who opened the way for the total dominance of neoliberalism in the West, after the advices from the bankers:

I largely agree, with one major exception. It is incorrect to exclusively blame the US financial elite. The European aristocracy, including the Rothschilds, is also apparently in cahoots. The Western Axis Cartel cannot be traced to a single country of origin.

It is always more strategic to identify your enemy precisely.

    1. You are right. However, the article refer to the world financial elites too through phrases like "Western oligarchs", "global neoliberal dictatorship", or, "international banksters".

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Stephen Hawking confirms: The problem is Capitalism, not robots!

globinfo freexchange According to world famous physicist Stephen Hawking, the rising use of automated machines may mean the end of human rights – not just jobs. But he’s not talking about robots with artificial intelligence taking over the world, he’s talking about the current capitalist political system and its major players. On Reddit, Hawking said that the economic gap between the rich and the poor will continue to grow as more jobs are automated by machines, and the owners of said machines hoard them to create more wealth for themselves. The insatiable thirst for capitalist accumulation bestowed upon humans by years of lies and terrible economic policy has affected technology in such a way that one of its major goals has become to replace human jobs. If we do not take this warning seriously, we may face unfathomable corporate domination. If we let the same people who buy and sell our political system and resources maintain control of automated technology, the...

Iran could be the US’s Boer war: a hollow victory that marks the beginning of the end of empire

US leaders anticipated a walkover. Now they’re embroiled in a conflict that could hasten the end of US economic dominance  by Larry Elliott   Nobody gave the Boers a prayer when the war in South Africa began in 1899. It was farmers ranged against the might of the British empire, and the expectation was that resistance would quickly crumble. Eventually, might did prevail. Britain won the Boer war, but it was a hollow victory that took the best part of three years to achieve and came at a high cost. The blow to British prestige – coming at a time when its global hegemony was under threat from fast-growing countries such as the US – was severe. Far from highlighting the extent of Britain’s power, it exposed its limitations. A century and a quarter later, the US risks being embroiled in its equivalent of the Boer war. What should have been a walkover threatens to become a prolonged conflict. The Iranians are using guerrilla tactics, just as the Boers did, with much success. There ...
