The
government determined to continue destructive neoliberal IMF agenda
The Supreme
Labor Council voted (with 4 votes against 3), for the mass layoffs of
45 from the 74 workers of the Hellenic Halyvourgia steel factory.
These are the first mass layoffs since more than 30 years. The
decision comes just a day after the IMF report which clearly states
that Greece should re-examine to free the mass layoffs measure after
summer period.
The 3
members who rejected the proposal claimed that the company did not
present adequate evidence for the necessity of the layoffs and didn't
answer to the question of why is requesting layoffs at the same time
that proceeds in new investments and steel imports.
Among the 4
members who approved the proposal there is a lawyer hired by the
Ministry of Labor to conduct a recent research related to the minimum
wage, a well as a representative of the Hellenic Federation of
Enterprises.
It is worth
to note that since the beginning of the year, the corporation adopted
a system according to which the workers were working only one day per
week and receiving no more than 200 euros a month.

It's obvious that the government
is determined to continue the implementation of the IMF neoliberal
policies while forced to impose predetermined measures and
conditions. The experiment must be completed by any means because
they fear of possible national elections and a broad win of the Left
which may put the completion of the experiment and its expansion
throughout Europe in danger.
