June 11, 2013: Neoliberal dictatorship shuts down the Hellenic Public Broadcaster in one night!

One of the worst moments of Greece in the post-junta period

One year from the announcement of the Hellenic Public Broadcaster (ERT) shutdown today. It came completely unexpectedly by the Greek governmental representative Simos Kedikoglou. With an incredibly arrogant style which refers directly to a representative of a fascist regime, mister "Goebbels" of the domestic governmental troika (now transformed in two-party coalition after withdrawal of Dimokratiki Aristera), announced the extermination - in just one day - of ERT, and got rid of its 2656 employees, in order to satisfy the outside troika lenders - who demanded more and more blood – and the domestic big media owners directly connected for years with the two-party establishment PASOK and Nea Dimokratia who brought country in this mess, in order to serve exclusively their own interests.

As it happened:

Journalists and workers continued to broadcast in a self-management experiment until November 7 of the same year, when police invaded at the ERT headquarters to force journalists stop broadcasting:

Many journalists went to work in the new "public" TV, now called NERIT, which is clearly a tool of government propaganda. It is characteristic that there are no opposition voices in this government creation, as the main opposition party SYRIZA, as well as other opposition parties like Independent Greeks, have chosen to exclude this channel in order to avoid legalizing its creation.

Many journalists from ERT3, the other Hellenic Public TV channel are still broadcasting from Thessaloniki headquarters, only through internet, as they've chosen not to become the mouthpieces of government propaganda:

Today:

Four-hour work stoppage from 12:00 to 16:00 Gr. time, will be held on Wednesday, June 11, in the media with the first anniversary of the "black" in ERT.

Federations and associations are scheduled a rally outside the offices of the Athens Journalists' Union (ESIEA) and march to the Ministry of Finance. On the same day at 19:00 Gr. time, a great concentration will be held outside the Radiomegaro of Agia Paraskevi (former headquarters of ERT, currently NERIT's), where the leaders of opposition parties and government representatives will speak.

Several states vow to take six 'concrete' steps against Israel at Bogota summit

Colombia says 'we will no longer allow international law to be treated as optional' as nations pledge to prevent arms transfers to Israel for Gaza atrocities   by Laura Gamba in Bogota  A coalition of states from around the world gathering in Bogota on Wednesday agreed to implement six measures to stop Israel's onslaught on Gaza and prevent violations of international law. The announcement came as part of an "emergency summit" in the Colombian capital, co-hosted by the governments of Colombia and South Africa as co-chairs of The Hague Group, to coordinate diplomatic and legal action to counter what they describe as "a climate of impunity" enabled by Israel and its powerful allies.
