Recently,
the titles of articles and TV news in the Western media describe a
scenery of disaster concerning inflation, prices, and lack of goods
in Venezuela, but, of course, some other things are completely
buried. Like, for example, the political assassinations of
pro-government supporters and the action of the right-Wing opposition
groups with the support of US organizations. As the teleSUR
reports:
Venezuelan
authorities are conducting an internal investigation into the
assassination of retired Army Major General Felix Velasquez, which is
the latest case in a surge of killings targeting pro-government
public officials and activists.
In recent
months, Western mainstream media outlets have remained silent
regarding the violence waged against government supporters, left-wing
activists and public servants, which many believe is an attempt to
undermine the future of the Chavista movement in the country.

Recall that the US didn't accept Maduro's victory from
the beginning and that there are specific actions to be taken against
an undesirable elected government in Latin America. As W.T. Whitney
described in his article On
the Warpath in Venezuela back in 2013:

mobilizations,” food shortages, “insurrection inside the
army,” and control of publicity. The authors anticipate “crisis
in the streets that facilitate the intervention of North America
and the forces of NATO, with support of the government of

injuries.'”
“Venezuelan,
European, and U.S. mass media feature stories of popular
frustration, even anger. Worried Maduro partisans recall Chilean

targets” for electronic eavesdropping
in 2007. (Others were China, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, and
Russia.) The strategic goal then – and probably now – was to
prevent Venezuela 'from achieving its regional leadership
objective and pursuing policies that negatively impact US global
interests.'”
“Maduro’s government recently
expelled three U.S. diplomats on charges they conspired with
opposition groups with intent to destabilize. Neither country has
posted an ambassador to its counterpart nation for three years.”
