H Βρετανία, o Φουκουγιάμα και ο Τιτανικός

Αχ καημένε Φουκουγιάμα! Η ιστορία δεν σταμάτησε με την πτώση του τείχους του Βερολίνου, όπως προέβλεπες. Αντίθετα, 27 χρόνια μετά, η πτώση του συνεχίζει να γεννά ιστορικά γεγονότα κι εξαμβλώματα.

Γιατί βεβαίως η επικράτηση του Brexit στο βρετανικό δημοψήφισμα δεν αποτελεί βαριά πολιτική ήττα μόνο για τον Κάμερον, που έσπειρε για ψηφοθηρικούς λόγους ανέμους δημοψηφίσματος για να θερίσει θύελλες. Αποτελεί παταγώδη αποτυχία ολόκληρου του βρετανικού πολιτικού συστήματος ― δυστυχώς προς όφελος της ξενοφοβικής ακροδεξιάς ― αλλά και του ευρωπαϊκού και διεθνούς πολιτικού κατεστημένου: από τον Ομπάμα μέχρι τη κυρία Μέρκελ, όλους αυτούς που νουθετούσαν ματαίως τους Βρετανούς να ψηφίσουν υπέρ της Ευρώπης, όπως την κατάντησαν.

Είναι ακριβώς αυτό το διεθνές σύστημα, από τους τραπεζίτες της Γουώλ Στρητ και της Φρανκφούρτης μέχρι το Βερολίνο και την Κομισιόν των Βρυξελλών, που εκμεταλλεύτηκαν τη πτώση του τείχους του Βερολίνου και του αντίπαλου κομμουνιστικού δέους, για να επιβάλουν την πλήρη κυριαρχία της διεθνούς ολιγαρχίας και να περιορίσουν τα κοινωνικά και πολιτικά δικαιώματα των πολιτών στην Ευρώπη.

Εγκαθιδρύοντας ένα αμείλικτο καθεστώς που δεν σηκώνει αντιρρήσεις, ακόμη και αν ο λαός μιας χώρας, σεβόμενος τους κανόνες, ζητάει αλλαγή της πολιτικής που έχει καταστροφικά αποτελέσματα: o εκδικητικός τρόπος που μεταχειρίστηκαν την Ελλάδα όταν προσπάθησε με εκλογές και δημοψηφίσματα να αλλάξει τη θανατηφόρο θεραπεία της λιτότητας, έκανε φανερό σε όλον το κόσμο ότι η δημοκρατία δεν αποτελούσε, πλέον, ένα από τα ατού που διέθετε η ΕΕ, σε σχέση με τις άλλες χώρες του κόσμου.

Ήταν αυτή η ξεδοντιασμένη Ευρώπη - όχι μόνο στο επίπεδο της δημοκρατίας αλλά και των κοινωνικών δικαιωμάτων που σταδιακά αλλά συστηματικά περιορίζονται, όπως συμβαίνει σήμερα στη Γαλλία ― που ήταν υποψήφια στο διαγωνισμό του φόβου που ονομάστηκε βρετανικό δημοψήφισμα. Οι μεν οπαδοί του Brexit διέβλεπαν κατάληψη της Γηραιάς Αλβιώνας από πρόσφυγες, οι δε της παραμονής φόβιζαν με τις οικονομικές συνέπειες από την έξοδο, γιατί δεν είχαν τίποτα θετικό να προτείνουν. Αλλά σε έναν συναγωνισμό φόβου κερδίζει πάντα η παράταξη που αυθεντικά τον εκπροσωπεί: η ακροδεξιά.

Είναι ακόμη πολύ νωρίς για να προβλέψει κανείς τις συνέπειες από τον διεθνή πολιτικό σεισμό που προκαλεί το αποτέλεσμα του βρετανικού δημοψηφίσματος. Το βέβαιο είναι ότι δεν θα υπάρξουν απλώς μετασεισμοί: τώρα που άνοιξαν οι ασκοί του Αιόλου, είναι πολύ δύσκολο κανείς να τους περιορίσει. Από την Τσεχία μέχρι τη Δανία θα πάρουν κι άλλες χώρες τον δρόμο του ευρωσκεπτικισμού, που έχει πλέον αέρα στα πανιά του.

Θα μπορούσε να υπάρξει αναστροφή της ιστορικής πορείας που ξεκίνησε από το 1989 και μετά, μόνο αν υπήρχε μια ευρωπαϊκή πολιτική ηγεσία που να μπορούσε να σταθεί στο ύψος των περιστάσεων. Δυστυχώς, πρώτα απ'όλα η κυρία Μέρκελ κι ύστερα ο κύριος Ολάντ δεν ανήκουν σε αυτήν τη κατηγορία. Ο τελευταίος είναι ένας εξαιρετικά αδύναμος ηγέτης, ενώ η Μαρί Λε Πεν, κερδισμένη του δημοψηφίσματος, θα βάλει και αυτή θέμα αποχώρησης της Γαλλίας και κλεισίματος στον εαυτό της.

Η πρώτη έχει τεράστιες ευθύνες για την πορεία του σκάφους, το οποίο κυβερνά εγωιστικά και κοντόφθαλμα, από τότε που ανέλαβε το τιμόνι, με το ξέσπασμα δηλαδή της οικονομικής κρίσης του 2008-9. Μάλλον θα κοιτάξει να εκμεταλλευθεί τη διεθνή οικονομική αναταραχή για να κερδίσει περισσότερα χρήματα ― τα γερμανικά ομόλογα έχουν αρνητικά επιτόκια τις τελευταίες εβδομάδες, δηλαδή μετά από 10 χρόνια τέλος το Βερολίνο θα πληρώσει λιγότερα από όσα δανείστηκε ― για να κερδίσει τις επόμενες εκλογές.

Και στο μεταξύ ο Τιτανικός θα συνεχίζει το ταξίδι του.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
