Tsipras vainly continues to seek alliances - this time in Europe

After he found closed doors in his quest for support for Greece in the other side of the Atlantic , the Greek PM, Alexis Tsipras, is about to try his luck in Europe. Meanwhile, six years have already passed since Greece entered the hellish neoliberal path of brutal austerity that, literally destroyed the economy.

From RT :

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has invited the heads of Southern European countries to discuss a new alliance against the EU's tough austerity policy. A conference is expected to be held in Athens on September 9 attended by France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, and Malta. The talks will continue during Tsipras’ visit to Rome, where he plans to attend a meeting of European Socialists.

The meeting of the Southern countries will focus on the “common” challenges facing the EU, including austerity, fiscal measures and migration. In April, Tsipras and the newly-elected Prime Minister of Portugal, leftist Antonio Costa signed a joint declaration, calling for an end to austerity policies.

[...]

During his visit to Greece, Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici warned Athens it should concentrate on meeting the budget surplus requirements and stick to reforms to regain credibility and earn further debt relief, rather than opening discussions on softening the policies.

Just read the last paragraph above and you will understand how much the Greek PM actually lives in a delusion. Moscovici repeated what every political puppet of the plutocracy repeats from both sides of the Atlantic for six years now, concerning Greece. If you need more proof, just look at the statements of the US Secretary of Treasury, Jack Lew, in his latest visit in Greece: “It is very important that Greece implements the measures agreed for the Privatization Fund as well as the reforms in the markets and services. These will mark a positive cycle for the economy and the Europeans can start the discussion on the Greek debt soon,”.

In other words, despite the absolute destruction, Greece must do more 'reforms' until the 'successful' completion of the brutal neoliberal experiment. This is the biggest concern of the puppets, not the debt relief and, most importantly, not anything that would give a real chance to the Greek economy to recover.

And all these, despite the endless disasters of the IMF policies in other countries in the past. Despite the numerous admissions of IMF officials about serious "mistakes" in the Greek program. Despite the latest report by the IMF's Independent Evaluation Office (IEO), exposing IMF's lethal "mistakes" concerning Greece.

The EFD-IMF sociopaths(?) continue to play their games over the Greek ruins , still promising a form "debt relief" that may come, when at the same time they are absolutely committed to the policies of destruction, forcing Greece to implement every last detail of them.

Well, now that the Greek experiment is about to end with Greece's "partners" leaving the country to drown in an enormous debt and an economic stagnation with an unprecedented unemployment, after wiping out the public property and the welfare state, Tsipras seeks for European alliances!

But if we take a look on the big players through which Tsipras seeks to fight the German sado-monetarism and the IMF plague, we will be disappointed.

Starting from France, it's not only Moscovici's absolute commitment to the timeline of the neoliberal experiment in Greece, it's also Hollande's zeal to implement it already in France! Recall that in July the “French Prime Minister Manuel Valls invoked special constitutional powers on Wednesday to force the contested labor law through parliament in the face of opposition from left-wing lawmakers. Hollande and his Socialist Party claim the law will curb stubbornly high unemployment rates by making it easier for employers to hire and fire workers, and unilaterally set working hours and wages. However left-wing lawmakers and unions say the law is a dramatic setback for France's working class and the historic gains made in the country.

Concerning Spain, it is doubtful that Tsipras will manage to build any solid alliance inside this huge political uncertainty. Moreover, his political friend from Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, didn't manage to gain more power in the latest national elections, despite the coalition with the other forces of the Left. On the contrary, Merkel's political friend, Mariano Rajoy, maintained the first place, despite the austerity, the corruption, and the hurricane of foreclosures by the banks.

Finally, Matteo Renzi in Italy doesn't seem to have the political magnitude and determination to confront Merkel and Schaeuble. Even now that Italy is facing a significant banking crisis, Renzi appears to be quite timid to lead an alliance against the disastrous German sado-monetarism.

So, what should we expect from Tsipras' new effort to escape from the neoliberal disaster? Not too many things, apparently.

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

Israel & CIA Behind Iran Protests To Get U.S. To Attack!

The Jimmy Dore Show    As protests in Iran have heated up, western media has actively exaggerated and selectively framed the violence by using casualty figures from U.S.- and Israel-funded NGOs — all in order to build public support for another regime-change war. Former CIA officer John Kiriakou and guest Scott Ritter claim protests were infiltrated by foreign intelligence networks and that Israel and the U.S. are using “human rights” narratives similarly to the way they were used in Iraq and Syria.   Dore and Ritter contend that Iran’s government responded to armed unrest rather than peaceful protest, while mainstream outlets ignore attacks on police and public infrastructure. They warn that propaganda, sanctions, and media coordination are laying the groundwork for a wider U.S.–Israel conflict with Iran.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Jeffrey Sachs: The US is a violent regime

CGTN   Shortly after US President Donald Trump announced on social media that American forces had carried out military actions against Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were forcibly taken to New York City to face US charges including narco-trafficking. Speaking with CGTN's Tian Wei, Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs warned that such actions reflect a broader pattern of militarized US foreign policy. By sidelining international law and disregarding the UN Charter, Washington is undermining the very framework meant to safeguard global peace and prevent another era of devastating wars.

The real reason Trump hesitates to strike Iran

globinfo freexchange   Recent statements by the Iranian leadership concerning the ability of Iran to hit US military bases, should not be taken lightly. It is not just the missile capability and - in some cases - even superiority of Iran in the broader region. That alone, would not be enough for Washington to take Tehran's threats seriously.    It has to do also with a strategic move by Iran in the geopolitical battlefield that changes the balance decisively in the war field too. As Pakistan Today reported back in July 2025:   In two recent wars that nearly tipped the world into a full-scale global conflict— one between Pakistan and India, and the other between Iran and Israel— a new determinant of military dominance emerged. In both cases, countries under pressure, Pakistan and Iran, not only stood their ground but struck deep into enemy territory with astonishing precision and devastating impact.  ... in a 12-day war with Israel, Iran destroyed numerous h...
