5 billion new pipeline agreement between Greece and Russia soon

globinfo freexchange

An agreement on the gas pipeline will be signed by Greece and Russia soon, perhaps next Tuesday, while the details were discussed during the official visit of the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Moscow, according to reports of CIHAN website and the agency Ria Novosti.

The bilateral agreement, if signed, includes a payment of 5 billion euros to Athens, while it is estimated that 3-5 billion will flow in advance to the Greek budget by for transit of natural gas from Russia to EU countries through Greek territory.

Moreover, according to the Russian energy group Gazprom the cost of construction of the Greek section of the new 'South' pipeline is expected to reach 2 billion euros and extends from the Greek-Turkish border to the border with FYROM. From there, will be expanded through Serbia and Hungary to Austria.

The pipeline will be built 'by private companies and will be fully in line with the EU legislation. There will be no problem with the European Commission' reported last week in the Ria Novosti a Greek government source.

... the details of the new agreement show that Russia probably wants to put Greece back in the game, seeing that there are dramatic changes in the political landscape not only in Greece, but also in Europe that could change dramatically the geopolitical status.

Rule by the rich: Western governments are oligarchies, not democracies

Geopolitical Economy Report   Western governments claim to be models of democracy, and demonize their geopolitical adversaries as "authoritarian", but empirical evidence shows that the USA and European countries are oligarchies dominated by economic elites and large corporations. Billionaire Donald Trump is the perfect symbol of this, but he's by no means the only one. Ben Norton explains.

Palestinian statehood is not a bargaining chip. It is not a threat. It is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people. Our demands on this shameful government remain the same: end all arms sales to Israel, impose widespread sanctions, and stop the genocide, now. — Jeremy Corbyn (@jeremycorbyn) July 29, 2025
