The US deep state transmits the first warning signals to Greece

by system failure

The phrase of the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, David Pearce, is characteristic: "If Savvas Xiros, or anyone else with the blood of American diplomats and U.S. Mission members on their hands, leaves prison, it will be seen as a profoundly unfriendly act," (http://news.yahoo.com/u-challenges-greece-over-move-softens-guerrillas-jail-181833736.html).

The statement was made on the occasion of the new law, brought by the Greek government, that allows severely disabled inmates - including Savvas Xiros, who is serving multiple life terms for his role in the defunct group November 17 - to be placed under house arrest.

Of course, Xiros was only a pretext for the US officials to start sending the first signals. What really bothered them, was the Greek-Russian approach, especially after Gazprom's head, Alexei Miller, in Athens, concerning the deal about the gas pipeline from Greek-Turkish borders to central Europe.

As already mentioned in previous article, the rise of the Left in Europe, may have unacceptable consequences for the US deep state as Europe "could slip to the Sino-Russian bloc which grows rapidly in the military and economic field and increasingly gaining independence from the Western economic system, attracting other countries too.", and “Post-WWII history shows that the United States tried to prevent the rise of the Left in Europe during the whole period of the Cold War, because of the fear of the Soviet further expansion. This was done through provocative operations against Leftist organizations ...” (http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2014/11/basic-reasons-for-which-us-deep-state.html)

Therefore, the phrase "unfriendly act" was targeting Greece's actions to open channels with Russia. Washington's neocons may remember some of their favorite practices (like the usual provocative operations) to implement them on Greece in case that Tsipras go too far with Russians.

On the other hand, it seems that Tsipras and Putin play the game smartly. After Miller's visit in Athens, both sides made clear that in case of a deal, the new pipeline will be constructed under full respect of the European legislation, in agreement with the EU. Miller also referred to European companies who are interested to participate in this project.

Therefore, lobbyists can be used to increase the pressure to Brussels to approve the deal. Additionally, the fact that European companies will take part in the project, and, the fact that the American interests pipeline TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline) from Azerbaijan will pass also from northern Greece, are together preventive factors against "nonlinear instability actions" inside the Greek territory.

But the Brussels bureaucrats will not only have to face the lobbyists' pressure about the project. They will also have to face the increasing Bulgarian displeasure from the cancellation of the South Stream pipeline that would have transported Russian gas under the Black Sea, through to Bulgaria and then onwards to other parts of Europe.

Rule by the rich: Western governments are oligarchies, not democracies

Geopolitical Economy Report   Western governments claim to be models of democracy, and demonize their geopolitical adversaries as "authoritarian", but empirical evidence shows that the USA and European countries are oligarchies dominated by economic elites and large corporations.
