ISIS militants reach Yarmouk camp, situation becomes even worse

The so-called Islamic State group (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) took control of large parts of a besieged Palestinian refugee camp in southern Damascus on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing witnesses.”

The Yarmouk camp, home to up to 18,000 people, has been caught between government forces and Syrian insurgent groups. 'They pushed from the Hajar Aswad area and Nusra fighters have joined them,' one witness said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said clashes continued inside the devastated camp, and IS now control some of the main streets in the camp.”

UNRWA remains deeply concerned about the desperate humanitarian situation in Yarmouk and appeals to all parties to do everything in their power to end the suffering of the over 18,000 civilians trapped there.
