Στον πυρηνικό πόλεμο όλοι οι άνθρωποι αποτεφρώνονται ισότιμα - Ντέξτερ Γκόρντον

Η έκφραση «Πάτα το κουμπί, Κιμ», με την οποία ευχόμαστε να πατήσει ο δικτάτορας της Β. Κορέας, Κιμ Γιονγκ Ουν, το κουμπί εκτόξευσης πυρηνικών πυραύλων, έχει γίνει συνώνυμη της φράσης «ματαιότης ματαιοτήτων». Στις ΗΠΑ πάντως, όλο και περισσότεροι φοβούνται μήπως πατήσει ο δικός τους πρόεδρος το κουμπί. Πάλι…

Aυτά είναι τα βήματα που θα πρέπει να ακολουθήσουν ο Τραμπ ή η Κλίντον για να εξαπολύσουν επίθεση με πυρηνικά όπλα», τιτλοφορούσε πρόσφατο άρθρο του το δίκτυο Bloomberg.

Με σειρά σχεδιαγραμμάτων και αναφορές σε πρώην αξιωματούχους εθνικής ασφάλειας, υποστήριζε ότι ελάχιστα πράγματα μπορούν να σταματήσουν τον εκάστοτε πρόεδρο των ΗΠΑ αν έχει λάβει την απόφασή του.

Το κείμενο υπονοούσε ότι μόνο ένα ολοκληρωμένο πραξικόπημα θα μπορούσε να ακυρώσει την εντολή, καθώς ο πρόεδρος διαθέτει μηχανισμούς για να παρακάμψει αντιδράσεις στελεχών του Πενταγώνου αλλά ακόμη και μια περιορισμένη ανταρσία από τους χειριστές των πυρηνικών όπλων.

Αν μάλιστα υπάρχουν υπόνοιες ότι μια εχθρική χώρα έχει ήδη εκτοξεύσει πυραύλους, ο χρόνος αντίδρασης του προέδρου περιορίζεται στα 30 δευτερόλεπτα. Στη συνέχεια απαιτούνται πέντε λεπτά για την εκτόξευση των πρώτων διηπειρωτικών πυραύλων και 15 για την εκτόξευση από υποβρύχια.

Τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες θεωρούνταν αδιανόητο να συζητά κανείς για το ενδεχόμενο πυρηνικού πολέμου εν μέσω της προεκλογικής εκστρατείας. Από τη στιγμή όμως που η Χίλαρι Κλίντον συνειδητοποίησε ότι αρκεί να τοποθετήσει τις λέξεις «Τραμπ» και «πυρηνικά» στην ίδια πρόταση για να προκαλέσει μικρές κρίσεις πανικού στους παρευρισκόμενους, φροντίζει να τις επαναλαμβάνει όσο συχνότερα μπορεί.

Ισως μάλιστα ακόμη και το εκτενές αφιέρωμα του Bloomberg, και άλλων ΜΜΕ, στο θέμα να αποσκοπεί στο να τρομάξει τους ψηφοφόρους του Τραμπ. Ας μην ξεχνάμε ότι την περασμένη εβδομάδα υπήρξαν οι ισχυρότερες ενδείξεις ότι η οικονομική ελίτ των ΗΠΑ… απολείπειν Τραμπ.

Πέρα από την Goldman Sachs, που κάλεσε τα στελέχη και τους συνεργάτες της να μην ενισχύουν οικονομικά την εκστρατεία του, στη μάχη μπήκε ακόμη και ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος των Starbucks που δήλωσε ότι θα ψηφίσει Κλίντον.

Παρά το γεγονός ότι η φιλελεύθερη Αμερική και κυρίως το χρηματιστηριακό κεφάλαιο γνωρίζει πως ο Τραμπ αποτελεί σάρκα από τη σάρκα της, εξακολουθεί να τον αντιμετωπίζει σαν αστάθμητο παράγοντα.

Ειδικά για όσο διάστημα αντλεί τη δύναμή του από τα καταρρακωμένα μεσαία στρώματα των λευκών Αμερικανών που αναζητούν διεξόδους από το φάσμα της φτώχειας προστρέχοντας ακόμη και σε πρωτο-φασιστικά ή μετα-φασιστικά σχήματα και πολιτικούς.

Σε αυτό το σκηνικό το να παρουσιάζεις τον Τραμπ σαν έναν νέο Dr. Strangelove, από την ταινία του Κιούμπρικ, έγινε το αγαπημένο όπλο της παράταξης των Δημοκρατικών.

Ο ίδιος άλλωστε πέφτει συνεχώς στην παγίδα, αφού σε σειρά συνεντεύξεων αφήνει πάντα ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο μιας πυρηνικής επίθεσης στη Μέση Ανατολή ή ακόμη και στην Ευρώπη.

Το πρόβλημα, όπως σημείωνε προ ημερών η ηλεκτρονική έκδοση του Politico, είναι ότι οι δηλώσεις του Τραμπ δεν διαφέρουν σε τίποτα από το επίσημο αμερικανικό δόγμα, που προβλέπει χρήση πυρηνικών όπλων ως «πρώτο χτύπημα» ακόμη και εναντίον χωρών που δεν διαθέτουν πυρηνικό οπλοστάσιο.

Παρά τη θέλησή τους τα κυρίαρχα μέσα ενημέρωσης φρόντισαν να μας υπενθυμίσουν ότι η μεγαλύτερη απειλή για την ανθρωπότητα δεν προέρχεται από τριτοκοσμικά καθεστώτα με αμφιλεγόμενες ποσότητες μη συμβατικών όπλων, αλλά από τις πυρηνικές υπερδυνάμεις και κυρίως τις ΗΠΑ.

Και αυτό όχι μόνο γιατί η Αμερική είναι η μόνη χώρα που έχει τολμήσει να δοκιμάσει την πυρηνική φρίκη απέναντι σε άμαχο πληθυσμό, αλλά γιατί μαζί με τους συμμάχους της συνεχίζει να το σκέφτεται.

Το 1965 επιτελείς του Πενταγώνου και ο ίδιος ο Αϊζενχάουερ πίεζαν τον πρόεδρο Τζόνσον να χρησιμοποιήσει πυρηνικά όπλα στον πόλεμο του Βιετνάμ – σε έναν στρατηγικό σχεδιασμό που θα ενέπλεκε και την Κίνα.

Στην περίπτωση του Ισραήλ –της μοναδικής χώρας της Μέσης Ανατολής που διαθέτει πυρηνικό οπλοστάσιο– ένα πέπλο σιωπής εξακολουθεί να καλύπτει τις πρώτες ημέρες του πολέμου του Γιoμ Κιπούρ όταν, σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, η πρωθυπουργός Γκόλντα Μέιρ δεχόταν πιεστικές εισηγήσεις να κάνει χρήση του πυρηνικού οπλοστασίου.

Αρκετοί ερευνητές μάλιστα υποστηρίζουν ότι η μυστικότητα με την οποία ολοκληρώθηκε το πυρηνικό πρόγραμμα του Ισραήλ είχε αποτέλεσμα να παρακαμφθούν αρκετοί από τους κανόνες ασφαλείας που πρέπει να τηρούνται στη μεταφορά ραδιενεργού υλικού αλλά και στην κατασκευή αντιδραστήρων και πυρηνικών κεφαλών.

Το ενδεχόμενο του πυρηνικού ολέθρου όμως αποφάσισε να μας θυμίσει πριν από μερικούς μήνες και η πρωθυπουργός της μεγάλης Βρετανίας, Τερέζα Μέι.

Απαντώντας σε ερώτηση αν θα χρησιμοποιούσε το πυρηνικό πρόγραμμα Trident (το οποίο θεωρείται από ορισμένους πεπαλαιωμένο και ως εκ τούτου ακόμη πιο επικίνδυνο), απάντησε ότι θα μπορούσε να το κάνει ακόμη και αν έτσι θα σκότωνε εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες ανθρώπους.

Παρά το γεγονός λοιπόν ότι χώρες όπως οι ΗΠΑ και το Ισραήλ, που έχουν πραγματοποιήσει τους περισσότερους επεκτατικούς πολέμους τον τελευταίο μισό αιώνα, διαθέτουν πυρηνικά όπλα, τα διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης έχουν φροντίσει να αποδίδουν τον κίνδυνο ενός πυρηνικού χτυπήματος σε καθεστώτα που με δυσκολία μπορούν να συγκεντρώσουν τα απαραίτητα υλικά για να λειτουργήσουν έναν πυρηνικό αντιδραστήρα.

Οσο για τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, για άλλη μία φορά αποδεικνύει ότι απλώς έχει την κακή συνήθεια να φωνάζει στα μικρόφωνα αυτά που το αμερικανικό πολιτικό και στρατιωτικό κατεστημένο συνηθίζει να συζητά πίσω από κλειστές πόρτες.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on.
