Το 2012 η Ρωσία είχε προτείνει αποχώρηση Άσαντ, αλλά η Δύση πίστευε στην απόλυτη νίκη

Πριν από τρία χρόνια, οι δυνάμεις της Δύσης απέρριψαν ένα ρωσικό σχέδιο για την επίλυση της συριακής κρίσης το οποίο προέβλεπε την εκχώρηση της εξουσίας από μέρους του Σύρου προέδρου Μπασάρ αλ Άσαντ, δήλωσε σήμερα ο διαπραγματευτής και πρώην πρωθυπουργός της Φινλανδίας Μάρτι Αχτισαάρι.

Ο Αχτισαάρι είχε λάβει μέρος στις συζητήσεις με αντιπροσώπους του Συμβουλίου Ασφαλείας του Οργανισμού Ηνωμένων Εθνών για το ζήτημα τον Φεβρουάριο του 2012, σημειώνει η βρετανική εφημερίδα Guardian, σύμφωνα με το Αθηναϊκό Πρακτορείο.

Ο ρώσος πρεσβευτής Βιτάλι Τσούρκιν είχε προτείνει ένα σχέδιο τριών σημείων που προέβλεπε την αποχώρηση του Άσαντ, αλλά οι ΗΠΑ, η Βρετανία και η Γαλλία απέρριψαν το σχέδιο, καθώς πίστευαν ότι ο Άσαντ θα έπεφτε σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα. «Ήταν μια ευκαιρία που χάθηκε το 2012», είπε στην εφημερίδα ο Αχτισαάρι.

Σύμφωνα με τον ίδιο, ο Τσούρκιν παρουσίασε το σχέδιο τριών σημείων σε κατ' ιδίαν συνάντηση που είχε μαζί του. Προέβλεπε ότι η συριακή αντιπολίτευση δεν θα εξοπλιζόταν, την έναρξη συζητήσεων μεταξύ Άσαντ και αντιπολίτευσης, και την εύρεση «ενός κομψού τρόπου για τον Άσαντ να αποχωρήσει».

«Τίποτε δεν συνέβη επειδή πιστεύω όλοι τους, όπως και πολλοί άλλοι, ήταν πεπεισμένοι ότι ο Άσαντ θα εκδιωκόταν από την εξουσία σε λίγες εβδομάδες, οπότε δεν υπήρχε ανάγκη να γίνει κάτι», δήλωσε ο Αχτισαάρι, αναφερόμενος στην προσπάθειά του να προωθήσει το σχέδιο του Τσούρκιν στις αντιπροσωπείες των ΗΠΑ, της Βρετανίας και της Γαλλίας στον ΟΗΕ.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’
