Απόρρητο έγγραφο των ΗΠΑ: Η Σ. Αραβία βασικός χρηματοδότης τζιχαντιστών

Σε απόρρητο έγγραφο της αμερικανικής διπλωματίας, το οποίο φέρει την υπογραφή της πρώην υπουργού Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ Χίλαρι Κλίντον και αποκαλύφθηκε από τα Wikileaks, επισημαίνεται η χρηματοδότηση που παρέχουν οι Σαουδάραβες σε τζιχαντιστικές τρομοκρατικές οργανώσεις, μεταξύ αυτών και το Ισλαμικό Κράτος.

Το έγγραφο, με ημερομηνία 30 Δεκεμβρίου του 2009, είχε σταλεί από την τότε υπουργό Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ Χίλαρι Κλίντον στο αμερικανικό υπουργείο Οικονομικών για ενημέρωση σχετικά με τις σημαντικές χρηματοδοτήσεις τρομοκρατικών οργανώσεων από Σαουδάραβες. Όπως αναφέρεται «αποτελούν την πιο σημαντική πηγή χρηματοδότησης στις τρομοκρατικές οργανώσεις σουνιτών σε όλο τον κόσμο»

Παρά τις επίσημες δηλώσεις από τη Σαουδική Αραβία πως λαμβάνει μέτρα για την αντιμετώπιση της τρομοκρατίας, η Χίλαρι Κλίντον υπογραμμίζει πως οι ενέργειες είναι «περιορισμένες».

«Πρέπει να γίνουν περισσότερα, καθώς η Σαουδική Αραβία παραμένει κρίσιμος οικονομικός υποστηρικτής οργανώσεων όπως η Αλ Κάιντα (και τα παρακλάδια της ένα εκ των οποίων υπήρξε αρχικά το Ισλαμικό Κράτος), οι Ταλιμπάν και άλλες» αναφέρεται στο έγγραφο με την πρώην υπουργό Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ να επιβεβαιώνει την απροθυμία της Σαουδικής Αραβίας για την καταπολέμηση της τρομοκρατίας, γεγονός που «υπονομεύει τις επιχειρήσεις για σταθερότητα στο Αφγανιστάν και το Πακιστάν.

Για τους λόγους αυτούς η Χίλαρι Κλίντον, μέσω του εν λόγω εγγράφου, καλούσε τους Αμερικανούς αξιωματούχους να πράξουν περισσότερα ώστε να σταματήσει η ροή χρήματος από Σαουδάραβες προς τις τρομοκρατικές οργανώσεις.

Όπως επισημαίνεται ωστόσο στο έγγραφο, η Σαουδική Αραβία δεν είναι η μόνη χώρα που χρηματοδοτεί τις τζιχαντιστικές οργανώσεις, μια εκ των οποίων είναι και το Ισλαμικό Κράτος. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει και σε άλλες χώρες του Κόλπου, όπως το Κατάρ, το Κουβέιτ και τα Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα.

Το απόρρητο έγγραφο είχε δημοσιευτεί αρχικά από τον Guardian και τα Wikileaks το επανέφεραν στο προσκήνιο τη Δευτέρα με ανάρτηση στον λογαριασμό τους στο Twitter.
