Θεέ μου, η Μέρκελ;

Ο καημένος ο Ομπάμα θυμίζει έναν πλούσιο που ψάχνει κάποιον κληρονόμο για να αφήσει την επιχείρηση. Κοιτάει από δω, πασχίζει από κει, τίποτα: στο τέλος, τι να κάνει, βρίσκει τη λιγότερο κακή απόγονο. Κάπως έτσι η Μέρκελ, υποψήφια ξανά για τη καγκελαρία, βρέθηκε να υπερασπίσει, ως ηγέτιδα πλέον του δυτικού κόσμου, «τις δημοκρατικές αξίες» της ανθρωπότητας.

Είναι αλήθεια ότι η κληρονόμος άργησε λίγο να αναγγείλει την υποψηφιότητα της. Ως συνήθως δίσταζε μέχρι την τελευταία στιγμή, μια αδυναμία που την πλήρωσε η Ελλάδα ιδίως το 2010, όταν η Γερμανία καγκελάριος καλείτο να αποφασίσει αν και πως θα την «σώσει». (το 2015, στις διαπραγματεύσεις με την κυβέρνηση Τσίπρα, μάλλον ροκάνιζε συνειδητά το χρόνο, παριστάνοντας ότι το σκέπτεται). Δεν δίστασε να ανακοινώσει ότι θα είναι υποψήφια για το φθινόπωρο του 2017, όταν, όπως συνηθίζει, συμβουλεύτηκε τις δημοσκοπήσεις που την έδειξαν να ανακάμπτει μετά τη ζημιά του προσφυγικού.

Η δημόσια προτροπή του Ομπάμα να αναλάβει την εκτέλεση της πολιτικής του διαθήκης περί δημοκρατίας έπαιξε και αυτή το ρόλο της, καθώς δυστυχώς είναι αλήθεια: με τον Ολάντ να καταρρέει και τον Τραμπ να θριαμβεύει διορίζοντας τα διάφορα «τρελά σκυλιά» στον Λευκό Οίκο, αποτελεί τη λιγότερο κακή λύση στο παγκόσμιο κενό ηγεσίας που γυρεύει να καλύψει διεθνώς η ακροδεξιά. Μπορεί τις «δημοκρατικές αξίες» να τις έμαθε αργά,γιατί η ίδια είχε διαμορφώσει τις όποιες αξίες στα 35 της, όταν έπεσε το τείχος(εκείνη τη μέρα της πτώσης άλλωστε πήγε όπως συνήθιζε στη σάουνα αντί στις διαδηλώσεις).

Μπορεί την ιδέα της Ενωμένης Ευρώπης να την έμαθε τα επόμενα χρόνια μετά το 1989, για αυτό άλλωστε και όταν χρειάστηκε, αντί να δείξει αλληλεγγύη, κήρυξε το προπαγανδιστικό και οικονομικό πόλεμο στο νότο. Αλλά με την ακροδεξιά να ανεβαίνει και στην Ευρώπη, τους Βρετανούς εκτός λόγω Brexit, τους Γάλλους ψηφοφόρους να καλούνται πιθανότατα την άνοιξη να επιλέξουν πρόεδρο μεταξύ του πολύ δεξιού Φιγιόν και της πολύ ακροδεξιάς Λε Πεν, οπαδοί και οι δύο της προσέγγισης με τη Μόσχα του Πούτιν, η επικεφαλής των Χριστιανοδημοκρατών δικαιούται τον τίτλο της «ηγέτιδας της Δύσης». Οι δημοκρατικές αξίες είναι ένα άλλο ζήτημα...

Η Άνγκελα Μέρκελ είναι μια τυχερή γυναίκα. Χάρις σε μια σειρά ιστορικές συγκυρίες- και σίγουρα την ικανότητα της στις εσωκομματικές μανούβρες- κατάφερε να κερδίσει την ηγεσία του Χριστιανοδημοκρατικού Κόμματος. Χάρις σε αντίστοιχες συγκυρίες- όταν η αναποφασιστικότητα της, με την κρίση της ευρωζώνης, μετατράπηκε σε στρατηγικό πλεονέκτημα επειδή το Βερολίνο είχε τα χρήματα- αναδείχθηκε σε ισχυρότερη γυναίκα της Ευρώπης. Και τώρα μετά τον Ομπάμα και την ήττα της Χίλαρι, σε παγκόσμια πρωταθλήτρια των δημοκρατικών αξιών.

Όμως η Γερμανίδα πολιτικός θα χρειαστεί πολύ τύχη το επόμενο διάστημα. Ο Τραμπ θα κάνει τυχοδιωκτισμούς χωρίς προηγούμενο, τέτοιους που θα νοσταλγήσουμε τον Τζωρτζ Μπους. Η ευρωζώνη και η ΕΕ στο σύνολο τους μπαίνουν σε νέα κρίση, πολύ πιο σοβαρή αυτή τη φορά. Και επίσης, ότι και αν λένε οι δημοσκοπήσεις, η ακροδεξιά θα ανέβει και στη Γερμανία, ροκανίζοντας την εκλογική βάση της Μέρκελ. Παρόλα αυτά, ο ενθρονισμός μιας μέτριας πολιτικού είναι χαρακτηριστικός της πορείας που έχουν πάρει τα παγκόσμια πράγματα. Είναι να αναρωτιέσαι: «Θεέ μου, η Μέρκελ;».

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
