Tsipras' delay tactics on financial mafia pressure

News from the Greek battlefield

by system failure

Greece's creditors increase pressure on the Greek government as we approach the day of the referendum announced by Alexis Tsipras. After closed banks and capital controls, the creditors are trying to postpone the democratic right of the Greek people by all means. We are witnessing another operation of a fierce propaganda war inside and outside Greece, concerning the referendum.

Tsipras surprised creditors by announcing the date of the referendum in a very short time, therefore, financial mafia's propaganda mechanisms are running with full force to shape public opinion towards "yes", using terror scenarios. The closed banks scenery works on this direction.

Propaganda is directed in two targets. The first target is to show to the public that the creditors are coming back with new proposals in order to achieve a deal with the Greek government. This is an effort to force the Greek government to drop the referendum, as it would have no meaning under different proposals.

The second target is to change the real question of the referendum and set a false dilemma. European officials and Greek politicians of the neoliberal opposition together with all mainstream private media, repeat all the time that the real question of the referendum is not about the new catastrophic measures imposed by the creditors. It's about on whether Greece will stay in eurozone (or even Europe), or not! The false dilemma is accompanied with the catastrophic Grexit scenarios in order to spread the fear and make people vote for "yes".

Therefore, Juncker appeared to bring a new proposal to the Greek government before the expiration of Greece's latest dose to IMF in the first hours of Wednesday. Of course, this was only a tactic move to force Tsipras come to the table of negotiations. Tsipras smartly responded the same way: he made a proposal which probably knew that the creditors will reject.

Obviously, the creditors try to avoid the referendum because it is doubtful that they can change public opinion in such a short time, and Tsipras delays because he wants to proceed in the referendum in any case.

Why the creditors and the local oligarchs want to avoid this democratic process, or, at least change Greek people's opinion towards "yes"? Because if the Greek people reject the austerity measures, and even better, with wide majority, the creditors would have to face directly Greek people's will. How they could tell to the other Europeans that they do not respect people's will?

However, if the financial mafia representatives decide to punish the Greek people for its resistance, in order to send the message to the others in eurozone, they will probably proceed in full termination of liquidity to the Greek banks through the ELA mechanism. And that would be probably the stupidest thing they could do. The Leftist Greek government will consider this as a direct war action and Tsipras will grab the opportunity: will take full control of the banking system - write-off debt - return to national currency. Here is the truly crucial point: under such circumstances, the impact in the global markets would probably make Lehman's collapse look like a playground.

  1. I would like to believe that Greece can stick two fingers up to Europe and get away with it but Tsipras did not believe the EU would call his bluff and now he's panicking. He believes the Eurozone banks owe too much money to Greece to let the country fail, but they appear quite happy for that to happen. The referendum was supposed to be a bargaining chip for the IMF and ECB to extend their loan facilities, they have just ignored it and now Tsipras is really thrashing around...

It is not any more about money: it is about the dignity and life of many people in Greece. And the hope is great: not only for Greece, but also for many people around the world. When will this system, that crushed "common" people for the "sake" of a minority, go to an end ? It is time to say NO ! No to the tyranny of money over people. No to a system that stipulates that financial balance is more important than the lives of millions of people. On Sunday, I will say NO to this system (even if cannot vote in Greece).

Unfortunately reforms in Greece's economy are necessary and hugely overdue. Starting with its strange pension system that allows for a pensionable age below 65 years of age. Followed by trimming its inefficient government (after Syriza re-hired redundant government employees), reforming its dated and fraud-friendly tax code.

For better or worse, Greece has not been able to bring off the necessary reforms under its own steam, making it very risky for creditors to lend Greece more money. Restructuring the debt is undoubtedly necessary, but will be discussed only after Greece has done all it can to reform its economy.

As I understand it, Greece's creditors are open to the idea of providing a social safety-net for pensioners unable to cope due to austerity measures. They are not blind to the social cost of austerity.

If further reforms (within months if a "Yes" vote is carried) are not an option, Greece would probably be better off leaving the Eurozone. Because then its new currency can be devalued and provide a frictionless adjustment in real wages to reflect its international competitiveness while keeping Greece's _internal_ demand alive.

Tactics and mr. Tsipras' wishes are not the issue. Long-term sustainability of the Greek economy is.

U.N. Experts Accuse Israel of "Starvation Campaign" in Gaza & Demand End to Western Complicity

Democracy Now!   Top United Nations human rights experts have condemned Western nations for supporting Israel's devastating war on Gaza, urging the world to stop an unfolding genocide in Palestine. This comes as the U.N. special rapporteur on the right to food, Michael Fakhri, is accusing Israel in a new report of carrying out a deliberate starvation campaign in Gaza.    " What we are witnessing in Gaza is the starvation of 2.3 million Palestinians. We've never seen a civilian population made to go hungry so quickly and so completely, " says Fakhri.    Democracy Now! also speaks with Francesca Albanese, the special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, who says Israel's assault on Gaza is part of a larger plan of " getting as much control as possible over maximum land with minimum Palestinian people. “The Democrats Have Lost Their Way Entirely & I’m leaving The Party!” – Dem Fundraiser Evan Barker

The Jimmy Dore Show   Evan Barker is a former Democratic campaign operative who says she has raised tens of millions of dollars for Democratic candidates and organizations. But over the years she witnessed the party changing, increasingly embracing elites and corporate interests while abandoning the working class. After attending the recent Democratic National Convention, Barker announced she was leaving the party in a widely read piece in Newsweek . Jimmy Dore speaks to Barker about the changes they’ve both witnessed inside the Democratic Party, whether there is a seismic political shift underway and how rejecting Democrats has cost them personally and socially.

Gavin Newsom LAUGHS About Dems Rigging Their Primary & Installing Kamala!

The Jimmy Dore Show   During the recent Democratic National Convention in Chicago, California Governor Gavin Newsom joined the Pod Save America hosts to discuss the highly democratic, ground-up process that led to Kamala Harris receiving the nod as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Oh wait, that’s exactly the OPPOSITE of what happened, which the foursome all laugh heartily over, showing just how little the Democratic Party respects democracy.

The US war machine fully supports Genocide Kamala!

globinfo freexchange   We are witnessing an incredible reversal (only on a rhetoric level of course) of the US political duopoly. The Democrats have gone so far to the Right, that allow Trump to attack them from the Left!  After being endorsed by the war criminal Dick Cheney, Kamala Harris achieved a new record on US imperialist machine favorability as more than 700 national security and military officials endorsed her for president in a letter.   Kamala obviously passed the test, by exhibiting to the US war machine lobbyists her skills on contributing to a genocide and triggering another round of chaos in the Middle East.   The sinister cabal of war profiteers blamed Trump "f or praising "adversarial dictators" including China's Xi Jinping, North Korea's Kim Jung-un, and Russia's Vladimir Putin, "as well as the terrorist leaders of Hezbollah," while denegrating the U.S. " As expected, they didn't bother to mention his full support to the

Exposed: How Israeli Spies Control Your VPN

by Alan Macleod    Part 3 - Poacher Turned Online Gamekeepers?   Before 2018, Kape Technologies was known as Crossrider and was often considered a malware company. Crossrider was a platform that allowed its clients to monetize their software by forcing ads in front of users’ eyes. Users’ computers, both PC and Mac, had their browsers hijacked, changing their homepages to a search engine not of their choosing to generate advertising revenue for the company. Although Crossrider did not produce malware or viruses, its platform was notorious for allowing third parties to distribute such malware worldwide. Thus, few people in the tech community were impressed when it changed its name to Kape Technologies and pivoted towards online privacy and protecting the public from unscrupulous actors. Erlichman told a local Israeli outlet that the name change and rebranding were necessary due to the “ strong association to the past activities of the company. ” In other words, the group had built up s

by Alan Macleod    Part 4 - Express VPN Executive, a Former Spy   When using a VPN service, users place a large amount of trust in the VPN company itself. They must trust that it is effectively encrypting users’ traffic, securing their data and the server network infrastructure, and not doing anything else with the vast amount of sensitive information they are given. As noted previously, individuals and organizations use VPNs to carry out all manner of highly compromising activities online. Unfortunately, Daniel Gericke, ExpressVPN’s chief technology officer (CTO) from 2019-2023, was deeply involved in such questionable practices. A Reuters investigation series revealed that Gericke was a key member of a team of spies that hacked the devices of human rights activists, journalists and government officials, stealing their data and passing it on to the government of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE used this data to track down dissidents and torture them, according to the investigatio

How the U.S. Enabled Netanyahu to Sabotage a Gaza Ceasefire

by Jeremy Scahill   Part 3 - Netanyahu’s “Coup” Against His Own Ceasefire Proposal   Since early July, Netanyahu has intensified Israel’s attacks in Gaza, repeatedly added new terms to the framework, and assassinated Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political leader and its lead negotiator, in Tehran. Among the new demands put forward by Netanyahu is the right to continue occupying the Philadelphi corridor along the border with Egypt, to maintain control of the Rafah border crossing and to position Israeli troops in central Gaza along the Netzarim axis where IDF forces would establish checkpoints to search Palestinians seeking to return to their homes in northern Gaza.  Egypt has objected to Israeli proposals to remain in the Philadelphi corridor. Israel asked Cairo to amend a 2005 agreement, a security annex to the Camp David Treaty signed in 1979, barring Israel from stationing its forces there. Egypt rejected this, saying, “ Opening a discussion about amending the Camp David Treaty may lead
