Στα πρόθυρα της διάλυσης η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση

Θερμό διπλωματικό επεισόδιο μεταξύ ΗΠΑ – Τουρκίας σημειώθηκε το προηγούμενο 48ωρο, με αφορμή τη συμμετοχή του ΝΑΤΟ στις επιχειρήσεις επιτήρησης των προσφυγικών ροών. Η γειτονική χώρα, αναιρώντας την πρόσφατη -επί της αρχής- συμφωνία, ζήτησε αναίτια να μετέχει μία τουρκική φρεγάτα στους σχηματισμούς της Βορειοατλαντικής Συμμαχίας – αίτημα το οποίο απέρριψε αμέσως η Αθήνα και η Ουάσινγκτον. Αυτός ήταν και ο λόγος της μικρής καθυστέρησης στην έλευση των νατοϊκών δυνάμεων.

Σύμφωνα με διασταυρωμένες πληροφορίες, η ατμόσφαιρα, κατά την διάρκεια των συνομιλιών, εντάθηκε σε τέτοιο βαθμό, που ανάγκασε στέλεχος της αμερικανικής πλευράς να θέσει, ανεπισήμως, ζήτημα αποπομπής της Τουρκίας από το ΝΑΤΟ. Έγκυρες διπλωματικές πηγές σημείωναν ότι η νέα σκληρή κόντρα Ουάσινγκτον – Άγκυρας βρίσκει την αφετηρία της στα υψίπεδα του Τελ Αμπιάντ, μια συριακή πόλη, στα σύνορα Συρίας – Τουρκίας, την οποία πρόσφατα ανακατέλαβαν οι κουρδικές δυνάμεις, με τη βοήθεια της αμερικανικής Πολεμικής Αεροπορίας.

Σε ένα άλλο μέτωπο, οι εκτιμήσεις για τη στάση που θα τηρήσουν η Αυστρία και οι χώρες του Βίζεγκραντ (Πολωνία, Τσεχία, Σλοβακία, Ουγγαρία), ενόψει της Συνόδου Κορυφής για το Προσφυγικό τη μεθεπόμενη Δευτέρα, 7 Μαρτίου, μόνο ενθαρρυντικές δεν είναι. Οι πιο απαισιόδοξοι, μάλιστα, δεν κρύβουν, σταθμίζοντας τα δεδομένα με μια ισχυρή δόση κυνισμού, πως «δεν πρόκειται αυτές οι χώρες να ανοίξουν τα σύνορά τους, ούτε μετά τη νέα Σύνοδο Κορυφής…».

Η σκληρή στάση της Αυστρίας στο Προσφυγικό ενισχύεται και από τις εντάσεις που προκαλεί η προεκλογική περίοδος. Σε λιγότερο από δύο μήνες, στις 24 Απριλίου, διεξάγονται προεδρικές εκλογές στην Αυστρία, με τους υποψηφίους ομοσπονδιακούς προέδρους να εκλέγονται απευθείας από το λαό. Αν επικρατήσει ο εκπρόσωπος του Λαϊκού Κόμματος, ο πρώην πρόεδρος της αυστριακής Βουλής, Αντρέας Κολ, θεωρείται βέβαιο πως η Βιέννη θα εισέλθει σε περίεργες ατραπούς.

Ο κ. Κολ είναι ο πιο «σκληρός» από την πτέρυγα των συντηρητικών, ενώ θεωρείται ο αρχιτέκτονας του δεξιού-ακροδεξιού συνασπισμού του Λαϊκού Κόμματος και του ακροδεξιού εθνικιστικού Κόμματος των Ελευθέρων. Σε περίπτωση επικράτησής του, το ρεύμα των ευρωσκεπτικιστών θα δυναμώσει πολύ στην Αυστρία, καθώς δεν είναι λίγοι εκείνοι που θα ήθελαν η χώρα τους να ακολουθήσει το παράδειγμα της Βρετανίας (δημοψήφισμα για έξοδο από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση).

Δημοψήφισμα, σε περίπου έξι μήνες από σήμερα, θα διεξάγει η Ουγγαρία για να αποφασισθεί αν θα γίνουν αποδεκτές οι ποσοστώσεις επανεγκατάστασης προσφύγων και μεταναστών που έχει αποφασίσει η Ε.Ε. Και στη Βουδαπέστη, όμως, οι ευρωσκεπτικιστές κερδίζουν συνεχώς έδαφος, υπό την επήρεια των ακραίων τακτικών που ακολουθεί ο πρωθυπουργός της χώρας Βίκτορ Ορμπάν. Πρόκειται για τον άνθρωπο τον οποίο ο πρόεδρος της Κομισιόν, Ζαν Κλοντ Γιουνκέρ, υποδέχθηκε στη Σύνοδο Κορυφής της Ρίγας λέγοντάς του, «Χαίρε δικτάτορα…». Τμήματα των Ούγγρων, όπως και των Αυστριακών, επιστρέφουν με φανατισμό στην ιδέα της εθνικής ταυτότητας, δυναμιτίζοντας την έννοια της ενωμένης Ευρώπης.

Η κατάσταση, όπως διαμορφώνεται, -και με το «ΟΧΙ» να διατηρεί την δυναμική του στη Βρετανία, παρά την κάμψη των προηγούμενων ημερών- αρχίζει να δικαιώνει όσους υποστηρίζουν πως η διάλυση της Ευρώπης δεν αποτελεί άλλο ένα κακόβουλο σενάριο, αλλά φθάνει απειλητικά, πλέον, στις αυλές των κοινοτικών εγκαταστάσεων στις Βρυξέλλες. Τις δραματικές αλλαγές στην ευρωπαϊκή ατζέντα επισήμαιναν οι αμερικανοί από τον περασμένο Δεκέμβριο…

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events.
