Μπέρνι Σάντερς: Ένας Αμερικανός σοσιαλιστής στο πλευρό της Ελλάδας

Το φαινόμενο Μπέρνι Σάντερς, του υποψήφιου για το χρίσμα των Δημοκρατικών στις προεδρικές εκλογές των ΗΠΑ, έχει ταράξει την πολιτική σκηνή στην άλλη πλευρά του Ατλαντικού. Αν και ο Σάντερς ξεκίνησε με μικρή απήχηση, η Χίλαρι Κλίντον, φαβορί για το χρίσμα, κατάφερε να επικρατήσει στην Αϊόβα με μόλις 0,3% (49,9% έναντι 49,6% του βετεράνου σοσιαλιστή) ενώ τα προγνωστικά για το Νιου Χαμσάιρ δείχνουν νίκη του Μπέρνι Σάντερς.

Η κούρσα για το χρίσμα των Δημοκρατικών είναι μακρά, και η Χίλαρι Κλίντον παραμένει το μεγάλο φαβορί, ωστόσο η ψαλίδα μεταξύ των δύο έχει κλείσει και ο Μπέρνι Σάντερς κερδίζει διαρκώς έδαφος. Σύμφωνα με τη δημοσκόπηση των Reuters/Ipsos, η Χίλαρι Κλίντον προηγείται με 48% έναντι 45% του Μπέρνι Σάντερς στους Δημοκρατικούς ψηφοφόρους.

Ενδεικτική της πολιτικής θέσης του Σάντερς, που σταδιακά κερδίζει υποστηρικτές στις ΗΠΑ, είναι η επιστολή που είχε στείλει στο ΔΝΤ ως γερουσιαστής και μέλος της Επιτροπής Προϋπολογισμού του Κογκρέσου, λίγες ημέρες μετά τη νίκη του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ στις 25 Ιανουαρίου του 2015, αλλά και η στάση του κατά τη διάρκεια των διαπραγματεύσεων της ελληνικής κυβέρνησης με τους δανειστές. Η Εφημερίδα των Συντακτών υπενθυμίζει τις επιστολές αλλά και τις δηλώσεις του Μπέρνι Σάντερς.

Στην επιστολή, με παραλήπτρια την επικεφαλής του ΔΝΤ Κριστίν Λαγκάρντ, τόνιζε πως “μετά την ανάληψη της εξουσίας από τη νέα ελληνική κυβέρνηση, έχουμε την ευκαιρία να σταματήσουμε την κατρακύλα της Ελλάδας, της ευρωζώνης και του παγκόσμιου χρηματοπιστωτικού συστήματος στο χάος”. Ο Μπέρνι Σάντερς επέκρινε το ΔΝΤ, σημειώνοντας πως χρησιμοποιεί χρήματα αμερικανών φορολογούμενων για να επιβάλλει αυστηρή λιτότητα στον ελληνικό λαό, μια λιτότητα που ο ελληνικός λαός δεν μπορεί να την αντέξει, ενώ παράλληλα επιτείνει τον κίνδυνο της μετάδοσης της κρίσης και της πολιτικής αστάθειας.
