Οι αξιωματούχοι των κινεζικών μυστικών υπηρεσιών πρέπει να δίπλωσαν από τα γέλια ακούγοντας τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο να εγκαλεί την κυβέρνηση του Πεκίνου για το γεγονός ότι παρακολουθεί τις ηλεκτρονικές επικοινωνίες των πολιτών της. Ο Μπάρακ Ομπάμα είχε φυσικά απόλυτο δίκιο να διαμαρτύρεται για την απαίτηση των κινεζικών αρχών να εγκαθιστούν ειδικό λογισμικό σε κινητά τηλέφωνα και υπολογιστές που θα τους επιτρέπουν να παρακολουθούν τις επικοινωνίες των πολιτών τους. Το πρόβλημα ήταν ότι την ίδια ακριβώς εβδομάδα είχαν έρθει στο φως νέες αποκαλύψεις ότι οι ΗΠΑ ακολουθούν πανομοιότυπες πρακτικές όχι μόνο για το εσωτερικό των ΗΠΑ αλλά σε ολόκληρο τον πλανήτη.

Γενικότερα, τις τελευταίες εβδομάδες οι αμερικανικές υπηρεσίες πληροφοριών και ειδικά η CIA, έδωσαν πολλές αφορμές για να βρεθούν στο επίκεντρο τους παγκόσμιου ενδιαφέροντος. Αρχικά ήρθε η απόφαση του επικεφαλής της CIA, Τζον Μπρέναν, να ανακοινώσει ίσως τη μεγαλύτερη αναδιάρθρωση που έχει πραγματοποιηθεί στην υπηρεσία, μετά την ίδρυση της. Μεταξύ άλλων ανακοινώθηκαν μετακινήσεις ανώτατων στελεχών με στόχο την ενίσχυση της παρουσίας στη Μέση Ανατολή αλλά και η δημιουργία νέων διευθύνσεων – με σημαντικότερη τη λεγόμενη «διεύθυνση ψηφιακής καινοτομίας». Ουσιαστικά πρόκειται για τη διοχέτευση τεράστιων πόρων στον τομέα του κυβερνοπολέμου, ο οποίος περιλαμβάνει από ενίσχυση των ηλεκτρονικών παρακολουθήσεων σε όλα τα μήκη και τα πλάτη της γης, προστασία από κυβερνο-επιθέσεις και προφανώς (κάτι που κανείς δεν μπορεί να αποκαλύψει δημοσίως) ενίσχυση των επιχειρήσεων ηλεκτρονικού σαμποτάζ, που είδαμε τα τελευταία χρόνια να σημειώνεται σε εχθρικά για τις ΗΠΑ καθεστώτα.

Παράλληλα ιδρύονται δέκα νέα «κέντρα επιχειρήσεων», που θα λειτουργούν σαν «δεξαμενές τεχνογνωσίας» – ένας εύσχημος τρόπος να ονομάσει κανείς την στρατολόγηση νέων πρακτόρων αλλά και την αναδιάρθωση προσωπικού για τα πιο σημαντικά σημεία των μυστικών επιχειρήσεων της CIA. Αρκετές από τις αλλαγές έχουν περισσότερο διακοσμητικό χαρακτήρα και προφανώς γίνονται για να εξυπηρετηθούν ισορροπίες δυνάμεων μέσα στον τεράστιο γραφειοκρατικό μηχανισμό των αμερικανικών υπηρεσιών . Έτσι, παραδείγματος χάριν, η διεύθυνση της CIA, που άκουγε στο όνομα «εθνική μυστική υπηρεσία» και ήταν υπεύθυνη για τις μυστικές επιχειρήσεις στο εξωτερικό μετονομάζεται σε «υπηρεσία επιχειρήσεων» ενώ η «διεύθυνση πληροφοριών» θα λέγεται πλέον «διεύθυνση ανάλυσης».

Οι αλλαγές στον τομέα των ηλεκτρονικών παρακολουθήσεων όμως αποτελούν πραγματική τομή στην ιστορία της υπηρεσίας. Μεταξύ άλλων έρχονται να συνενώσουν την προσπάθεια του Μπαράκ Ομπάμα να συνδέσει τις παρακολουθήσεις απευθείας με τους ιδιωτικούς κολοσσούς επικοινωνιών. Ουσιαστικά έκανε αυτό που ζητούσαν και οι κινεζικές αρχές, απαιτώντας από τις εταιρείες να δημιουργήσουν «κερκόπορτες» (backdoors) στα προϊόντα τους, μέσω των οποίων οι αμερικανικές υπηρεσίες θα αποκτούν πλήρη πρόσβαση σε όλα τα δεδομένα των χρηστών τους. Ενώ όμως η Κίνα παρουσιάζεται από τα διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης σαν απολυταρχικό καθεστώς επειδή απλώς μιμείται τις χειρότερες αμερικανικές πρακτικές, ο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα τολμά ακόμη να κουνά το δάχτυλο δηλώνοντας ότι εκπροσωπεί τον «ελεύθερο κόσμο» της Δύσης.

Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι ακόμη και αξιωματούχοι της κινεζικής κυβέρνησης, όπως ο Φου Γινγκ, εκπρόσωπος του Εθνικού Λαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου δήλωσαν ότι ολόκληρο το πρόγραμμα παρακολουθήσεων που προτείνουν απλώς αντιγράφει όσα γίνονται τα τελευταία χρόνια στις ΗΠΑ από υπηρεσίες όπως η CIA, η NSA και το FBI.

Την ίδια ώρα η υπηρεσία κλιμακώνει τις προσπάθειές της για τον ολοκληρωτικό έλεγχο κάθε είδους επικοινωνίας και στην τελευταία γωνιά του πλανήτη. Μόλις τις περασμένες εβδομάδες έγινε γνωστό ότι η CIA, σε συνεργασία με την Υπηρεσία Εθνικής Ασφάλειας (NSA) δημιουργούν νέες «κερκόπορτες» ασφαλείας στο λογισμικό κρυπτογράφησης, που χρησιμοποιεί η Apple για τα iPhones, προκειμένου να έχουν ανά πάσα στιγμή απόλυτη πρόσβαση σε όλο τον όγκο δεδομένων και συνομιλιών κάθε τηλεφωνικής συσκευής της εταιρείας. Μεταξύ άλλων οι αμερικανικές μυστικές υπηρεσίες προσανατολίζονται στην εγκατάσταση των λεγόμενων keyloggers στα κινητά – λογισμικό το οποίο καταγράφει κάθε κίνηση του χρήστη και την μεταδίδει αυτόματα στους «ωτακουστές» της αμερικανικής κυβέρνησης.

Η Apple είχε ήδη συνεργαστεί με την NSA μέσω ειδικού προγράμματος με την κωδική ονομασία Prism το οποίο ουσιαστικά προσέφερε στην NSA προσωπικά στοιχεία των χρηστών των συσκευών της. Ήδη από την εποχή της 11η Σεπτεμβρίου η αμερικανική κυβέρνηση επί προεδρίας Τζορτζ Μπους συνεργαζόταν με την AT&T για να έχει έλεγχο στους μεγάλους τηλεπικοινωνιακούς κόμβους της εταιρείας. Μέχρι το 2007 η συνεργασία του αμερικανικού κράτους με τις ιδιωτικές εταιρείες είχε γενικευθεί καθώς στο «παιχνίδι» είχαν μπει η Microsoft, η Google, η Yahoo και η Facebook. Όπως αποκάλυψε μερικά χρόνια αργότερα ο Έντουαρντ Σνόουντεν αυτή ακριβώς η συνεργασία επέτρεψε για πρώτη φορά στην ανθρώπινη ιστορία σε μια κυβέρνηση όχι μόνο να παρακολουθεί σε πραγματικό χρόνο κάθε συνομιλία αλλά και να ανατρέχει σε αποθηκευμένες επικοινωνίες που πραγματοποιούνται μέσω προγραμμάτων όπως το Skype αλλά και στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης.

Σύμφωνα με παγκόσμια δημοσκόπηση που δημοσιοποίησε αυτή την εβδομάδα η Διεθνής Αμνηστία, το γιγαντιαίο πρόγραμμα παρακολουθήσεων των ΗΠΑ προκαλεί πλέον την οργισμένη αντίδραση των πολιτών σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο. Επικαλούμενη και τα στοιχεία που έφερε στο φως της δημοσιότητας ο Έντουαρντ Σνόουντεν η ΔΑ επισημαίνει ότι οι παρακολουθήσεις που πραγματοποιούνται σήμερα δεν έχουν προηγούμενο στην ανθρώπινη ιστορία – όπερ μεθερμηνευόμενο η κατάσταση είναι πολύ χειρότερη ακόμη και σε σχέση με απολυταρχικά καθεστώτα που κατηγορούνταν για παραβίαση του προσωπικού απορρήτου, όπως η σταλινική Ρωσία ή το καθεστώς τρόμου της Στάζι στην πρώην ανατολική Γερμανία.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
