The Greek government expedites Tsipras' visit to Moscow

Tsipras moves fast to bring pressure on the German camp

globinfo freexchange

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will visit Moscow on April 8 after being invited to talks by Russian President Vladimir Putin, a Greek government official said on Tuesday. Greece's government has previously said Putin had invited Tsipras to visit Moscow on May 9 and it was not immediately clear if that trip had been changed. It would be Tsipras's first official visit to Moscow since being elected in January.”

Tsipras's left-wing government ruffled feathers among European partners in its initial days in power with comments suggesting Greece might not support EU policy on Russia.”

It is certain that the Greek govmnt wants to bring the pressure at the lenders' side rushing to show its intentions concerning a fast approach with Russia. The latest move is probably related to the meeting between Tsipras and Merkel on Monday. Tsipras wants to go with the Russian card in his pocket.

Furthermore, May is closer to the end of the four-month truce period that the Greek government achieved. Therefore, Tsipras wants to be certain for Moscow's intentions earlier, so that to make the necessary moves.

... the Greek side will exploit this period to build stronger alliance with the Sino-Russian bloc. Tsipras will certainly exploit his visit to Moscow in May (http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2015/02/confirmed-putin-calls-tsipras.html), while he will search all the possibilities for a financial aid from BRICS which are building fast an autonomous financial system to decouple their economies from the neoliberal monetary monopoly. In the middle of the negotiations, Tsipras already took the chance to send another message to the Western allies with the help of the Chinese fleet.

Palestinian statehood is not a bargaining chip. It is not a threat. It is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people. Our demands on this shameful government remain the same: end all arms sales to Israel, impose widespread sanctions, and stop the genocide, now. — Jeremy Corbyn (@jeremycorbyn) July 29, 2025
